Howdy all,
I have just bought myself a jeep patriot with the stock speaker system, and would like to know, can I put an AMP and Sub into the stock deck or is that not doable without major surgery?
cheers

It should be doable with the addition of a line level converter that will give you the RCA connections you need to hook up an amp. You also could purchase an amplifier that will accept bare speaker wire for the input, also known as high level input.
This is the converter that the shop I go to carries. It is capable of a 10 volt output.

but then you need to splice the wires coming out of the deck, feed them to you're amp,
then back from your amp, to where they used to hook up with the head unit.
more work than its worth considering all the great head units you can get for fairly cheap.
and a single din install kit is pretty cheap too.

I agree but then, if you are interested in better sound I am of the opinion that the extra effort is worthwhile. More work, yes, but worthwhile.
I just swapped out the stock 6x9's (any one wanna buy them cheap?) for Infinity 9622i's. What a difference! Consider that in the past I have swapped stock speakers out and always had to finally resort to changing the headunit - even with a speaker level input amp installed. I tell you, not with the MyGig. I still want an amp but I am not changing that headunit. It sounds really nice as it is. I am postponing my purchase of an amp until maybe Xmas (was gonna be my fathers day gift).
I know the MyGig is a Chrysler product but I am curious as to who manufactures it for Chrysler. Anyone know?
