Hey Everybody,
I was recently searching to buy a 8.5 (diesel) or 2009 (hemi) Overland Jeep Grand Cherokee but couldn't find one.....
I live in Ontario Canada...Yes, there were some new ones available in Ontario but what happened was,,,
Since the bankruptcy announcement, dealers are refusing to trade inventory with each other. I was trying to purchase one using my local dealership but soon found out that was going to impossible if they did not have one in stock.
I called to dealers within my province (and out of province) but soon found out that dealers were now attaching extravagant fees to the vehicle such as window etching ($179), nitro in the tires ($169), dealer fees of $100 or more,.....I got fed up with it what I call dealer B.S. fees.....and decided I didn't want to be ripped off.... and gave up looking....
It is really sad that certain dealers appear to want to rip off customers rather than sell cars in good faith....
I refuse to pay for B.S. such as the above.....I would love to support Chrysler as my brother works for them but I will wait until I can order from the factory rather than deal with dealers who are looking to rip-off customers....

Charging for Window Etching? Crazy. That was a selling point on my vehicle by the salesman, wasn't aware it cost money. They made it sound that it was all included. I'd been fed up too. I'd just let the nitro out of the tires on the lot, and then put regular air in haha.

Unfortunately Frosty this is the ugly side of human nature. Grab as much money as you can while you still can. Dealers like that are the ones that need to be "streamlined" and it sounds like none of your local dealers are worth doing business with. Back in the good old days the only dealer who had the specific configuration I wanted was 500 miles away and my local dealer said "No problem, give us two days". I don't know if they would still do that but I was mighty impressed at the time.

i paid for the window etching and the nitro warranty. a bit annoyed at the time...but after having the pat for a month, i've no regrets. can we really blame these dealerships from trying to charge some of these fees for selling the car? i mean it is a business and they are trying to make money. if we try to get the car for cost and expect them to waive all their fees, then what do they get? as long as they don't try to rip me off, i don't mind them making some money off of my sale.

But they are making money forcing you to buy options you do not want... Nitro in tires? Tell the you don't want it and to take it out. :D Etched glass? tell them you want standard... if they want to sell it they can replace the glass with an unetched one.
I am sure they will laugh at you but I am with ya man... In fact I refuse to buy a car with a dealers tag (advertisement) on the car/truck anywhere! Once I had a dealer deliver my Durango with such a plate on it and I told them I wanted money for advertising their business... they immediately removed it!

nitro in the tires ($169)
Thats outrageous. I paid $5/tire yesterday at a normal tire distributor here.

Still searching for a vehicle but no luck yet.....some dealers are refusing to sell their vehicle to me because I am an Employee Purchase and they are holding onto their stock to get the most money they can (from a regular customer) since they can't order new vehicles right now....
Very frustrating to say the least.....not sure how long I will have to wait to factory order a 2010 G.C.....I read that production was supposed to start on the 2010 July 27 but I also read that bankruptcy proceedings could delay both the production/launch of the 2010 and the 2011....
Sigh......some demos are floating around but I wanted to buy new.....

First, dealers get various manufacturing incentives on a regular basis to sell vehicles to everyone (even some reimbursement to sell on Employee Purchase vehicles)....
second, dealers get my trade-in (my vehicles are always only about 1-2 years old with low mileage and showroom condition), which they get from me at a very good price (since I take the hit for depreciation) and are able to make money when they resell it...
In my opinion, the customer should have the right to REFUSE to pay for options they did not request such as window etching, nitro in tires, wheel locks, as well as dealer prep fees (when a dealer trade is done), and the always present dealer admin fees (just another dealer rip-off)...
Here is one example of a dealer in Southern Ontario... MY local dealer asked if he had the new G.C. in stock....he faxed back a price and added all of the phony fees mentioned above....then an hour later, faxed back again and said it was sold...
One week later, I phoned the same dealer asking about the same vehicle....it wasn't sold at all....they were holding out for more money and wouldn't sell it to me......one week later, they sold it to another dealer trade for $3000 over cost.....
Some would say, that is okay to do business like that....I would say it is no wonder customers are leary of these sales people when they walk in a dealership....If there is not trust between dealer and customer, how can you do business?
No, I don't mind that my dealer makes money off of me--whether it be from my new car sale or trade-in but please don't clearly rip me off by phony fees for items which I did not ask for....it is a real turn off and should be outlawed in the business....also there should clearly be rules between dealers for dealer trades to regulate the B.S. that is going on, especially in these unfortunate times...
The customer is the real loser here...
