I don't really have a problem with the current shift knob, but I'd like to see an alternative too. Something non-chrome

I did see a lighted skull shift knob at the car show this weekend. My son wanted me to get it for the Patriot.

Anybody have the Compass shift knob part number? From what I can tell they are the same. Did Jeep start putting the chrome ones on the Compass too? I am tempted to go rent a Compass and switch them :) Just kidding. If you pull straight up the shifter comes off fairly easy(found that out in a Caliber forum).

I've been keeping an eye on this site. Lots of cool stuff for the Patriot.

This is one of the first things I noticed too... I find it strange that my entire interior has the black and grey theme and then they throw a chrome shift knob in there.

If anyone can track that down that knob with "Jeep" on it, let me know!

Any luck finding quality alternative knobs?

Here's a Jeep one but I don't know if it would fit.

I don't really have a problem with the manual shift nob, however, I don't like the plastic dress around the stick. I noticed on the '08 UK CRD model, that they have a leather one, like most other cars. Will the '08 US model have this too?

yes, your JEEP DEALER has the part number. DUH! just give them a call and ask for a shift knob for a 2007 Compass. i think the '08s are different and don't say "Jeep" on them. they WILL interchange.

my '07 Compass DOES!!!!:D

Here's the '07 Compass Limited Jeep logo shift knob. It's fits my '07 autoPatSport just fine.

I can't take credit for the find. A poster on the Jeepforum.com site had the part number.

Total cost: $15.62usd.

Part number - 5273590AB knob-gearshift

moparpartsamerica.com - search the part number

Decline the VIN number request.

Pops off - pops on - looks good.

A little more info - the shifter DOES fit the 2007 AUTO shift stem. Not absolutely sure about the 2008 AUTO shift stem. Anyone know for sure on the 2008 auto?
The shifter DOES NOT fit the STANDARD (manual) shifter stem (see matty13 post).

I have a 2007 Patriot CVT. I would love to get this item. However, I have pulled fairly hard striaght up on the knob. Is the 2007 Patriot CVT knob pop off or is there a trick?

The little plastic "skirt" on the bottom of the knob seperates from th top piece and then you pull straight up and it should come right off. I have had mine off twice and I used a screwdriver to pry apart the plastic "skirt" and the top of the gear shift knob.

this is probably a stupid question..... but here it goes... just wondering

any chance that the part #'s are different for canadian models???

the other thing i'm worried about is that knowing our price differences the knob will probably cost in the upwards of $30 here in canada (from the dealership)....

I called a dealer here in Canada, It's the same part number, and the price was around $15 as well. I didn't order it yet because I haven't been able to get the current knob off yet. I'll take a look for this "skirt" today.

I just went out and pulled mine off again. No big deal, no collar, just a good hard pull. We are talking about the CVT, right?

I took some pictures and if I have enough room left to post them, I will around noon.

This is all that the SM says:
Fig 1.
1. Pull up on shifter knob (3) and remove.

With what seems like quite a few people wanting this shifter knob do you think Jeep will wise up and use it on the 09's or will they continue to get $10 a pop after selling us brand new vehicles for a part we wanted from the start?

the edges are a little sharp and take a bit of getting used to (there always has to be at least 1 drawback to a mod!)

Any suggestions?

If you don't have any luck locally try Wyckoff (http://www.wyckoffchryslerparts.com/info.html). They do ship international.

Something has just never seemed right about my stock shifter knob. I finally realized that the idiot who put it on in the factory put the indentation toward the front instead of toward the back.
So I gave it a tug (man do you have to mean it when you pull it off) and turned it around. Now it is much better. :smiley_thumbs_up:
This is why so many things have to be "keyed". The assembly worker will put things together just about anyway they "fit".

Ahemmm...
The "Idiot" at the assembly plant did it correctly...
Check the pictures of the interior at jeep.com for an example.

Well then, I guess I am the idiot. :BLAM:
It makes more since to me and my opposable thumb that I grab the shifter with my hand on top, fingers down the front, and thumb wrapped around the back than it does to wrap my fingers horizontally around the front with my thumb on top.
It is a good thing that they did not key this thing then!

Well, I'd like to thank everyone who spelled out the part number for the shift knob. I stopped by our dealership last friday to order it and he called today (monday afternoon) saying it's in and waiting for me. I ran over (rather quickly I might add) and picked it up for a grand total cost of $11.83 (Illinois taxes included).

It looks Mahhvelousss.

Chalk up another one to the forums success stories.
