: Wisconsin Meet, Interested?
koolkatken83 04-16-2009, 10:24 PM Was wondering if anyone was interested in a trail meet in Wisconsin or surrounding area? Any ideas of places to go or meet would be great. I say northern Wisconsin, or the U.P. would be great. But interested in any ideas.
koolkatken83 04-26-2009, 05:26 PM 23 views and no one has said anything, at least ask where at but nothing I guess.
Im interested.
where at? i live near chicago
Will H 05-25-2009, 01:21 AM I'm interested just not too sure where to go to play. Inlaws have logging property (4 sections) near Escanaba in the U.P. but doubtful on getting permission to go and play there. :(
I will be up there July 23, 24, and 25 though. :smiley_thumbs_up:
patman16 05-25-2009, 11:33 AM yeah i live in chicago and am also interested the only problem is i got a 4x2 but would like to test it out i got the 2 inch lift kit and some a/t tires. just need a spot
jepstr67 05-25-2009, 12:57 PM Since there is at least one 4x2 person interested, how about a shore line drive along lake Michigan? Are there any lake side sand dunes that are public off road sites?
Will H 05-25-2009, 02:30 PM The only place I can think of is Silver Lake in lower Michigan. And It's pretty crowded on weekends in the summer.
koolkatken83 05-25-2009, 10:04 PM I was thinking of riding federal roads in northern wisconsin, or county roads around marinette county, there are many falls and rapids and what not on the Peshtigo River, a 2x4 shouldn't have a problem with these roads at all. Or give other suggestions.
Will H 05-26-2009, 08:35 PM Sounds good to me Ken.
IowaEagle 05-26-2009, 08:54 PM I am going to our International AMC Eagle Meet in Galesburg the first weekend in August. I may be taking the Patriot as the Eagle just needs too much done to it and my doc has limited my wrenching activities a while longer yet. When were you thinking?
koolkatken83 05-27-2009, 06:04 PM I'm pretty flexible to what dates, so far I have July 25, and August 1, up for more suggestions.
Will H 05-27-2009, 08:57 PM How's about something around August 15th or16th? Maybe even Late June.
koolkatken83 05-27-2009, 09:31 PM I will add it to the list of dates.
firemothjoe 06-06-2009, 02:31 AM This is really starting to look enticing to me! But does it have to be the weekend? Meh, nevermind. Don't make it a weekday just for me! I'm not very reliable anymore. Not anymore. But I wanna go! Date doesn't matter. I'll just put in for vacation when you all figure it out.
koolkatken83 06-06-2009, 01:30 PM Found maps of trail system in Michigan, remember that not all trails are for Jeeps, some are for ATV's, so look them over good and let me know if this looks interesting to you!
Michigan Maps (http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10365_15070-38330--,00.html)
Will H 06-06-2009, 04:46 PM I looked it over and the Michigan ORV site seemed like ATV trails for vehicles up to 40 or 50 inches width also a license is needed $16.50. Inlaws live in Menomnee Mi. so I like the area since I have a place to stay but I really am not sure where to go:confused:. I know Firemothjoe and I could make the trip and late June or Aug. would be good for me.
Ken do you have any ideas where to go around you? They don't have to be trails persay; county dirt roads with a little sight seeing. I remember going grouse hunting in Phillips Wisconsin and some of the forest roads were pretty good and even needed 4X4 at times.
koolkatken83 06-06-2009, 10:20 PM Not a problem Will, I would like this meet to be a mild trail/road ride, more or less just a meet and greet. Also have a link to Wisconsin's Rustic Road system, we would not be limited to just these as there are also a lot of federal gravel roads in the area. Forest and Marinette Counties are full of these roads.
Wisconsin Rustic Road (http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/scenic/northeast.htm)
Will H 06-06-2009, 10:53 PM That sounds good to me a meet and greet with a mild trail/road ride. I guess we will need to get a date to meet up and see how many people are interested in going.
koolkatken83 06-09-2009, 10:00 PM I've been looking at lots of maps and the gazateer, would like to make a good ride through some county and federal roads and stop at Goodman Park for Lunch. It is an awesome place with rapids and old buildings that the CCC built in the 30's. Here is a brief write up on trails.com (http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=HGM074-039&Source=YSSP&oc=6000&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=ssp&utm_campaign=yssp_catalogtrail&track=1). Think it would be a lot of fun just trying to decide on a good time. We are expecting our third (a son finally after two wonderful daughters) in July. So, thinking late July or Early August. Trying to get a few more people interested in this.
koolkatken83 06-09-2009, 10:02 PM Anyone coming to the Offroad Races in Crandon, WI?

Congratulations on number three!
Hey that sounds good to me so how's about in August say maybe the 15th and 16th? Is that any good for you?
koolkatken83 06-10-2009, 06:22 AM That weekend sounds good to me...
koolkatken83 06-10-2009, 06:26 AM Congratulations on number three!
Thank You very much, we are very excited, (she can't wait till this one is over and is suggesting to me about getting FIXED!:wow: I keep telling her i'm not broke though.)
Will H 06-10-2009, 10:51 PM Cool, then let's give Aug 15-16 the go! I hope we can get some other Patriot owners to go.
wwworth 06-11-2009, 09:26 AM If someone near the area of the meet could list Motels and one or two good camping places in the area It would be a help to those of us not from Wisconsin.
koolkatken83 06-11-2009, 04:42 PM Goodman park itself is a great place to camp and there are Federal Campgrounds near by also. For Motels Crandon has a Best Western that was built a year or two ago. I will find more options for you when I get home.
Will H 06-19-2009, 06:47 PM There's quite a few places to stay for an overnight even a casino.
www.molelake.com
koolkatken83 06-19-2009, 09:31 PM This was built last year and is really nice. I live about 5 miles from there and have never gambled there, but there are a lot of locals that do. I was in the conference center for a wedding this winter, which was the first time I was in the Resort and was quite impressed.
koolkatken83 06-21-2009, 09:32 AM I went to Goodman Park today to have a picnic with the family and to ride ATV trails with the Joyner Commando and took these pics. There is so much more to see, so these are just a taste.

Will H 06-21-2009, 10:00 AM Nice looking spot. Do they raft or canoe that part of the river? It should be fun in Aug.
koolkatken83 06-21-2009, 04:28 PM That's a good question, I don't do any rafting, if I had to guess I'm sure that they do. There are many rapids and small falls all along this. Really pretty area.
koolkatken83 06-27-2009, 10:16 PM So just checking to see who is thinking about this.
wwworth 06-28-2009, 10:40 AM Barring any sudden "you can't go we must do this instead" sudden family needs I will be there.
wwworth 06-28-2009, 02:43 PM Goodman Park In Wisconsin? I have found directions to it but cannot find: what type camp sites or amenities are offered, cost of or how to reserve a campsite. I have tried Wisconsin State parks and outdoors also federal and national parks and recreational sites. Does anyone have any of this information or know of a web site that offers this kind of information?
It sounds and looks like a great place to camp.:smiley_thumbs_up:
Will H 06-28-2009, 04:57 PM I'm planning on going too. Not sure if I'll be camping though high temp+humidity= Hotel room w/shower:)
wwworth, You'll be going past where I live enroute to Crandon. Maybe we can meet up and follow each other up there.
wwworth 06-28-2009, 07:29 PM Will
Sounds good we can set it up closer to the trip time and when I know for sure I can pull it off this time. I hope to have my Apache Eagle Tent Camper ready by than. If not I might Motel it. Talk later.
Webb
koolkatken83 06-28-2009, 09:37 PM Camping is $10 a night a Goodman Park for ammenities there really isn't any other than outhouses and great views. We may also be camping there that weekend. The campsites aren't reservable there. I was there last weekend and there were two other campers there. Most people go to the campground south of there McClintock Park, which is an ATV campground. I can always help you out with other camping in the area.

koolkatken83 07-27-2009, 09:19 PM Bump! to see who's interested. So far Will_H, wwworth?, anyone else?
wwworth 07-29-2009, 11:00 PM I will not have a Patriot by the time you all meet so I will not be going.
Need to downsize and pay some bills. The economy has not been good to my retirement account.
Wishing you a good time
Webb:(
firemothjoe 07-30-2009, 01:13 AM Terrible news, WWW! The Economy has screwed me over too. Tisk tisk, who to blame.. oh yeah, my former roomate, who didn't have a recession-proof job... that's right.
Would rather lose my apt before giving up my Jeep, so that's what I'm doing now. As soon as I find a cheap place to live, I'll be ready for another trail ride.
wwworth 07-30-2009, 08:29 AM Joe we will see better times Because We will be part of the cure, but We may have to use our Tea Bags for our tea and than use them to demonstrate. Just remember a wet tea bag carries more clout than a dry one.
I would keep the Patriot but Cheryl's car which cost more than the patriot now books at the same resale so we are upside down on it. So I will sell the Patriot (which is paid for) and buy an older car and use the extra to pay on her car. I think her car was worth what we paid for it and she needs a reliable car for work also it gets a little better gas mileage than the patriot.
As Arnold Schwarzenegger said "I'll be bock" from time to time just to annoy you all.

koolkatken83 07-30-2009, 04:16 PM That's too bad to hear Joe and Webb, wish things were better for the both of you. If it's any sign, work has been picking up for my side business, seems people are willing to spend money on things to help prolong the life of their vehicle, with rocker panel protection and bedliners. I'm sure there will be other times for everyone to meet up somewhere. Good luck.
Will H 07-30-2009, 05:59 PM I tried to e-mail last night but my server was down  Anyway what I was going to say is Ken if we do not have anyone going but me why don't we try doing this in the fall when the colors are in? You tell me what time of month that is.
I don't think that everyone really knows how great it is up there. I already am wishing I was back on those trails we had in Mole Lake. And I know where you are thinking of taking us will not disappoint anyone.
If anyone wants to go I'm willing to go still on the 15th but I just can't see going myself. The wife is not going this time but may go for a fall ride.
Let me know what you think Ken.

Yes, this sounds like a better time to me! The color ride would be great. The weather is usually pretty nice, cool in the morning and long sleeve/ short sleeve during the day. I think a fall ride would be more fitting and maybe we can get the word out more by then.
InfiniteTeach 08-22-2010, 08:12 PM I'm totally new to the site (except for some lurking) and will be purchasing my Patriot (hopefully) this week. I am around the Fond du Lac area and would be down for a meet and greet.
Keep me in mind if you all do set something up for fall, my wife and I would love to bring our soon to be new toy!
