So i want nav in my patriot... but im not fond of the one jeep offers. i'm looking at aftermarket. HOWEVER, the way the center stack is shaped so damn goofy around the radio it's making it hard... meaning the two knobs on the ends with the 1/2 moon shaped circles they make.

the nav i was looking at was the pioneer AVIC-d3 which retails at best buy for $999.99 and in my opinion is waaaaay better than the factory one. here are some of its specs.

This in-dash navigation system helps you arrive at your destination without going through the hassle of reading and folding maps. You can also watch DVDs or jam to CDs, radio or Satellite Radio (tuner, antenna and subscription required).

3D Hybrid Sensor utilizes Gyro and G-Force sensors for improved navigation

XM NavTraffic-ready receives traffic information for select cities (outboard box GEX-P10XMT or GEX-P920XM and subscription required)

Hands-free connectivity to Bluetooth-enabled cell phones (CD-BTB100 adapter required, not included)

Built-in 50W peak power x 4 MOSFET amplifier (22W x 4 RMS) and 3-band parametric EQQ; 3 loudness modes; 3-pair RCA preouts (front, rear, sub)

AM/FM Supertuner IIID with 24 station presets (6 AM, 18 FM) and best-stations memory; compatible with XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio (XM or SIRIUS tuner, antenna and subscription required for activation)

AppleŽ iPod™-ready (CD-I200 cable required, not included) for a quick and simple connection; aux input for connection to your portable music player

Recorded voice instructions playback

Vehicle dynamics display allows you to monitor your vehicle's performance with on-screen gauges, including acceleration, direction, speed and more

Receiver is compatible with rear-view camera system (requires the purchase of additional accessories)

NOW IT MEASURES 7"X4".... for those of you with a patriot... would this fit in the slot for the standard radio? or would a custom center stack be required? your help in this manner would be greatly appreciated! thanks :)

that sounds GREAT with the iPod connectivity and XM capability...
I'm a fan of the ESPN and sports channels on Sirius but I believe I would prefer a satalite radio provider with a top 20 on 20 channel- thats what sirius lacks....the rear view camera sounds really neat and that system just really does sound great...I would go for it if I were you
I just don't know if I need all that but talk about bang-for-the-buck!

I was looking at this on the web, Does it have gps positioning that tracks where you are and shows you on the map? (eg: "turn left at next street") I didn't see this listed in the options when I looked at it on line.

You mean the stock Jeep Nav system? It's only available on the Limited model, unless you buy the Nav system and Nav bezel from either your dealership or off eBay.

Actually I was refering to the pioneer AVIC-d3 unit. I was looking at it on line and didn't see if it tracked you while you drove. I'm not sure if I should go with an in dash unit or a portable one. I like the looks of the in dash but the portable one is cheaper and can be moved between cars.

I wanted the avic d3 as well, but let me tell u how hard it would be. The regular bezel is about half an inch too small to fit it, and those half moons will look stupid on each side. If you have steering wheel controls, you will lose those if you don't buy the proper adapters and such. Since the vehicle is still new, they don't really have good kits to install it.

Best Buy wanted to charge me $1700 total to install this unit, it would've been ridiculous, sure it has more features, but stock is always cleaner and easier way to go.

I ended up buying the factory nav on ebay for $800, $45 for the nav bezel and installed myself!!! I'm so glad I did and I love it. Don't forget, the airbags and security system are all tied into the radio, it messes things up sometimes to change them if its not done properly, I didnt want to take that chance.

i just purchase a 7" double din head unit. I am going to modify my factory radio bezel so that it will fit properly. i have to do some cutting and use some body putty to get it to fit, i will post some pictures when i am done. I had the factory single disc cd player.
