Nah, if the spot I'm camping at is Jeep accessible, I sleep in the ZJ. Throw down the back seats, inflate an air mattress and you got plenty of space for two people for the night. It's cozy and great against the elements. No better sound then rain pinging off the roof of the Jeep at night while you're out in the wilderness :D

I did that in my ZJ. Didn't have an air mattress though. THICK blankets underneath. ;)

The first few times I slept in there I didn't have an air mattress. It was always stiff regardless of how many blankets I laid. My brother suggested an air mattress so I took some measurements went to Wal-Mart and bingo, I have the closest thing to an RV as I'll ever have. I've also been poking around for an old military Jeep trailer and maybe rig up some sort of tent type system for it.

I wonder if the Patty will be big enough for an air mattress :D

We have used a tent that fills the truck bed. It works great.. so long as both people really like sharing a large sleeping bag. It was very comfortable even in colder temps. Once my wife was +6 months pregnant we needed to move to a larger ground tent.

I have considered a roof tent like those from Lofty Shelters (http://www.loftyshelters.com/IndexFrame.htm)

I can see it on the Patriot already... I think that it covering the top of the Jeep will also keep the Jeep a bit cooler inside, too.

Here's another one (http://miarroba.com/foros/ver.php?foroid=247643&temaid=2693523) that looks interesting... (part away down the thread)

That first trailer is pretty sweet but very pricey. The tent seems pretty simple. I'd rather find one of the old military trailers like the CDN M101 and fab one up. I have a buddy who's very good at those sorts of little inventions.

As for the roof-top tents... those things are SWEET but I'm still not so sure they're that practical.

interesting option...

...Another excellent location to mount a rooftop tent is on top of a military style off-road trailer such as Tim Stinson's ex-Canadian military 101 CDN trailer, pictured to the left. This location allows you to unhitch your trailer at a campsite, leaving your tent pitched and your camp site "claimed". Meanwhile your 4x4 is free to explore the local trails.

Lest you think that these tents are small, that trailer is massive. The tires shown are 9.00Rx16s, or about 26" tall tires....source (http://www.pangaea-expeditions.com/eeziawn/index.html)
