Anybody else notice that the pat doesn't have a passenger side lock/unlock door button? What's up with that?

I have a question then... if the passenger tries to just open the door it stilll opens even though it was locked right? Or do they have to manually unlock it then open the door?

This is going to drive my wife insane I can tell already...

Yes when the door is locked the passenger can just pull the handle and it will open even if the door is still locked. So it's not like you'd need the switch.

I don't really see how this will really effect things then. My wife already asks me to unlock the doors anyway when getting the kids out the back. And to be honest I usually use the remote anyway.

Buttons? We don't have no buttons. We don't need no stinkin buttons. Sorry got carried away for a second... My wife noticed it the second week. Sure it saves a few dollars and they probably calculated the button was pulled a total of 11 times while owned by a person likely to buy a new car. They don't care about the car after the 2nd owner.

my 2004 Intrepid is the same and so is our new Compass. Wanted the Patriot but no FWD available here.

I really hadn't noticed it until one day....I wanted to lock the vehicle (and i was on the passenger side walking by) and didn't have my key fob with me so I just automatically opened the passenger door and .......no lock/unlock button.....and I said to myself......okay ....now I know of two places where DC saved money.....one....the short little hood stick and....two.....the passenger side lock/unlock button.....

Honestly DC....I would have paid more for the vehicle to get a full length hood stick and have another button....

Yeah! I read this thread and took a look and sure enough, no button. I also realized there is no key hole on the passenger door either.

Actually I went out afterwards and mine does have lock buttons on the inside on all four doors. They stopped using keys on the passenger side doors years ago to save money. I guess it is one of the Limited's features.

are you talking about the locks in general? Because yeah, my limited has that too, or are you talking about lock/unlock buttons like the one on the drivers side front seat?

I just looked for the pull up manual buttons. The driver's door should be the only one with electric locks all around.

I was talking about the electric lock/unlock button (like the GC has on both the driver and passenger side)

Ok. The only one of our cars that has that is our van. Cannot remember if my Passat had it but, if so, it stopped working :D.

With speed sensitive locks and the fact that you can still open the door, it does kind of make it redundant.

Yeah that is a good point...

Still it would be nice to have the electric switch there when you need it. I am always getting stuff out of the Jeep from the passenger side so being able to lock the doors after I am done is very nice. It's hard to hit the key fob when you are holding on to a bag of geroceries and trying to carry your lunch pale in the other hand.

At the same time DCX stopped putting passenger lock cylinders on the outside of the passenger door in 2003. It was a huge cost savings and can't say that this was a bad idea. At least it's not a bad idea until your key FOB dies and you can't get to the drivers side door

while we're on the topic of door locks... my previous car was a dodge sx2.0 and that car had lock cylinders. Anyways, one day while i got off work, i noticed that someone jammed my driver's side door, so i couldn't put my key in. I actually had to get into my car through the passenger side (thank god that side was okay) and crawl into the drivers side. Did this for about a year or so, wasn't worth it to claim for insurance and was too lazy or no time or cheap at the time...take your pick. So, with that being said...i'm very glad to have this remote key entry and have no lock cylinders for someone to jam up again... :)

Very true indeed... But on the flip side of this coin: All the power goes out in the car (dead battery) and your drivers door lock is froozen solid in the middle of winter and you need shelter.

Then what? (not to be argumentative - just thinking about the other side)

I don't think I have put a key in a vehicle door lock for at least the past 10 years. It took a couple of weeks with the Patriot before I even noticed it didn't have a passenger lock switch.
