Interested in the automatic transmission to be used in the Patriot, I did some digging.

The JATCO JF011E transmission

JATCO Website

A Caliber article from Allpar
http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/caliber.html

Unfortunately there is no data available on the torque capacity of this transmission except that:

Belt CVT for medium vehicles JF011E
* Light and compact design
* High efficiency
* Wider variator ratio
* Main vehicles equipped with this CVT:
NISSAN LAFESTA, SERENA,
BLUEBIRD SYLPHY
MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER
DAIMLERCHRYSLER DODGE CALIBER

Also for some further reading on the engine

The 2.4 L 172 hp (127 kW) variant of the GEMA engine was scheduled by Chrysler for use in the performance-oriented R/T trim line of the Caliber. A 300 hp (224 kW) turbocharged version of this engine will be used in the high-performance SRT-4 version of the Caliber. This engine also became the base engine in the 2007 Chrysler Sebring and 2008 Dodge Avenger, since the previous generation Sebring and the Stratus used the 2.4 L Neon engine as their base engine offering.

Applications:

Chrysler Sebring
Dodge Avenger
Dodge Caliber R/T, 172 hp (128 kW) and SRT-4, 300 hp (224 kW)
Mitsubishi Outlander
Jeep Compass
Jeep Patriot

Since the turbocharged 2.4 will only be offered in the Caliber SRT4 package with FWD and manual transmission, I have my doubts as to whether or not the CVT can handle this power level.

I don't know if you saw this thread or not, but you might want to give it a peak. I sen't an email to jeep concerning modifying the new engines and what the CVT can stand up to.
