Just read this on another forum, figured it was good to know for anyone with the world engine.

That's kinda weird about the AC running all the time. I wonder if that's true, and if it applies to the Patriot.

Wow, I am no mechanic, I got info once from a tech repairing a car I once had. A/C kicks on normally when you depress your switch that kicks on a relay. The relay kicks on the clutch actuated a/c compressor that I guess sends refrigerant through the condensor. There is a fan that blows air off the condensor and runs the cold air through the cabin. If the Patriot has no clutch on the compressor, then maybe the Patriots MPG is not changed if you have the air running or not. If that is the case, I will be enjoying that air!!
That is very interesting. I'm not sure what "Pulse Width modulates a swashplate" (in referenced thread) means, but it kinda sounds like theres still a mechanism for modulating the compression of the refrigerant. It may be more efficient than a standard clutch arrangement - I'll have to ask one of the engineers at camp jeep this year. I didn't really notice an extra drag on the engine when I hit the A/C button, but I have hardly used the A/C so far.
