: Picked up my compass Monday!
So far so good, the vehicle really fits our needs and does so at a little better price point than other vehicles in it's class.
Really Really happy to have a Jeep back in the garage!

stoutster 07-12-2006, 02:36 PM How bout some pics? Did you get the Sport or the Limited? What color? I'm curious.....on pins and needles!!! Do tell!!!
unclejjg 07-12-2006, 02:59 PM Specifically, how do you like the CVT? Does it have a bit of pep? Is it loud? How is it going up hills and other terrain?
Thanks for sharing.

BigDuke6 07-12-2006, 10:23 PM We want pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry guys, I'll get some pics up soon. We're very happy so far. It's the dark blue, limited edition with CVT. I'm very happy with the CVT, my daily driver is a Toyota Prius so I already knew what to expect. The "odd" thing is that it has a "manual shift" mode. My guess is that this just locks the CVT at certain ratios to give the illusion of shifting. Fairly useless to me although I suspect it will be handy for descending and winter driving. The CVT does not seem to be noisy at all but It's a good sized vehicle for a four-banger so the engine seems a little buzzy under hard acceleration. It's not bad by any means, just noticable. The interior is pretty well covered in cheap plastic but that's to be expected for this price range. We got this to make it a bit easier to load and unload our 8 month old and it was a much better buy than the competition.

Very good to know. Thanks.
I've heard that the CVT is very similar to that of a snowmobile. If so, it should be a fun drive.
OK folks, here are some pics as promised. Let me know if you have any questions.

BigDuke6 07-14-2006, 12:11 AM Awesome dude!!!! Thanks for the pics.
pdxbubba 07-14-2006, 09:57 AM Nice photos... Great looking Compass. Congrats. I never knew that the "O" in compass on the rear bumper had crosshairs on it.
I thought that the compass shorts were a nice touch, too.
tommcg 07-14-2006, 03:46 PM dude, who did you have to sleep with to get the body-color mirrors?? the limited that was on ebay had black, and so do all the compasses in the press shots. so body-color mirrors aren't standard on limiteds, and i didn't think i saw them as an option on any press releases ...
seriously, this is crazy man; the only jeep you can get body-color mirrors on is the grand cherokee srt8 ... ya know, for about 2 or 3 times the price of a compass.
Only reason I bought it ;-)

LoneWolf 07-21-2006, 12:55 PM Great-looking Jeep! Looks surprisingly large for the price.
llpistonsll 08-19-2006, 01:20 AM Can you do a compairison pic, and a pic of the radio/dash, and a pic of the liftgate speakers?
Thanks, that would be cool
aliens8443 08-27-2006, 09:04 PM i've been in a compass at the dealer and the liftgate speakers weren't all that they're cracked out to be. they almost looked like they were about to fall off when i pulled them out. that is pretty cool though that there is an A/C outlet, i didn't know that was an option at all
llpistonsll 08-29-2006, 04:01 PM Yea the one by my house didnt even have the liftgates. He said they got loose and rattled around on the caliber so they are redesigning the liftgate speakers.
He said I have to wait a month for all the 07s to come in and I can get one for 200-225 a month!!! I CAN NOT WAIT A MONTH
LoneWolf 08-29-2006, 06:25 PM My wife and I stopped by our local Jeep dealer Sunday evening when I spotted a Jeep Green Compass.
It was just a base model, but looked really nice. One thing that did surprise me (other than the fact that the dealership left it unlocked over the weekend -- oops!) was how short it was. Jeep lists the height of the Compass as 65.2 inches -- which is right at my eye level. But this Compass' roofline was under my chin!
I guess it might be because it was a base model, but Jeep's Web site makes no height distinction by model. Hmm ....
Otherwise, it was a really nice little car. I'd love to see a Limited.
aliens8443 08-29-2006, 11:04 PM the reason is that the base models come with 17" wheels, while the limited have optional 18" wheels.

DOH!!! Talk about missing the forest for the trees! I guess that would do it.
Captain Crash 08-30-2006, 11:33 AM Those are just the sizes of the wheels... I would imagine the overall diameter of the tire is the same.
Sorry, mine didn't come with the fold down speaker option in the liftgate. It did come with the pop-out LED flashlight which we have used and were glad it was there when we needed it.
Still love the CVT. Since it is only a 4-banger there are some times you really need to punch it for passing or hills and it's really nice not having an automatic tranny slam shift two gears down when you floor it. The CVT just purrs and speeds you up with no jerky movements of sudden revs.
There were a few small impressions (not really dents) below the license plate on the tailgate. The dealer provided a paintless dent repair guy to fix it for us. He speculated they were from someone shutting the gate by pressing below the tailgate. There's not much to push to close it though. There is a hand slot on the bottom of the gate that is exposed when the door is open, it's a little awkward to use but it does the trick.

J4000 08-31-2006, 11:15 AM Hi Beer, I know it's still very new, but what kind of fuel mileage are you getting with your Compass?
I'm not really sure, my wife isn't really keeping track. We are heading out on a vacation in a week or so and I'll pay close attention and post results when we get back. I'm thinking it's going to be 20-25 but we'll see.

J4000 08-31-2006, 02:25 PM Thanks, we'll look forward to hearing your report!
BigDuke6 09-09-2006, 11:04 PM Any further updates on your Compass?
LoneWolf 09-19-2006, 11:52 AM Any further updates on your Compass?
Guess he and the family are too busy out enjoying the Compass! :D
Sorry guys, my boss called and laid me of in the middle of vacation! What an ass. Been busy looking for work. Anyway, just to give a mileage report the idiot lite seemed to come on around 275 miles and we got about 23 MPG. Keep in mind thats my big butt, wife, baby, and packed to the gills with wife things, baby things, and my shoebox sized bag. The trip was a lot of interstate and we were travelling upwards of 75 mph. We met my parents in the Outer Banks and for that week I did all the driving. Anywhere we went it was 4 adults and baby with baby stuff too. All the local driving loaded down like that made for about 23 mph as well.
It performed really well for us and the CVT is nice when you have to get on it. You don't have to deal with the tach flying into the red and hard downshifts.
First warranty issue: horn shorted and will be replaced.

BigDuke6 09-30-2006, 02:30 PM Beer,
Sorry to hear about the layoff. Not good at all. Thanks for sharing your mileage info. I will be interested to hear what kind of milate you get when you aren't loaded down.
