Hi guys!
I know that the Patriot will be available with 16 and 17 inch rims, but what about the tires? Which size will that be? We can`t drive around on standard "slicks" eeehh?;) We have to go up on the size one or two times.

Regards
Ronny

One size is probably doable... I don't think that you could get away with stuffing much more than than in there since it doesn't have solid axels.

I don`t think solid axels is a "must have" for getting bigger tires. On IFS systems we put ut to 38" tires here in Norway and Island. I only want to get a little more rubber. One size or two. To manage this, we could use budget bust kit over the coils. This is very usual in Island.

On my LandRover Freelander I have 30/10,5R15 BF A/T on 7x15 Jeep rims. This is a great combination on this one. No cutting and modifications on the fenders is needed.

Màlmsteypan Hekla in Island make budget bust of aluminium for many different brands and modells of cars.

I thinking of putting a mud-terrain with a lo profile on the Patriot. Such as Dunlop Grantrek MT 2 or Goodyear MT/R. I just have to find the right sice.

I am really looking foreward to this.

If any body wonder about 38" on IFS check out http://www.arctictrucks.is
or .com or .no Nada problemo

Interesting. I would love to see some photos from below to show how they did it without any cutting or trimming.

As for tires, I love the redesigned Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ (http://www.protruck.com/sponsor-yokohama.html). They have really handled a lot of abuse and never let me down on the road or the trail!

I posted the 6 page section for the Patriot over on this thread (http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143) to make it easier to download.

Hi!
It is just my Freebe that didn`t need any cutting and trimming. Just 1,5 " budget boost. And the correct tire size is 30/9,5R15. Sorry about that. And for the other cars like Hilux on 38" it is a lot of modifications on the car.
Sorry about the misunderstanding.

I'm sure the IFS in the Patriot is over-engineered enough to handle larger tires -- within reason. If you want to go two sizes up from stock, you probably could do it with some fender trimming. But since none of us have actually seen the Patriot in person, this is all just heresay.

I think that with the little 4 banger engine and the CVT2, it might be a better bet to go with a narrower and taller tire. Hopefully that will handle the type of off-roading you will do. It will dig more in the snow, mud and sand... but it will get you up and over rocks and logs better. It might be easier for that engine/trans combo to push along though. I have noticed in other vehicles that the wider tires do put more strain on the engine/trans just in normal daily use.

I will probably start investigating to see what some of the first sets of tire/rim combos people first go with when taking their samauris offroading. Seems to me they go tall and narrow first off.

I, for one, am awfully glad to see that the Limited with Freedom Drive I (the model in which I'm most interested) will come equipped with Firestone Affinities instead of those *$@!!)?"%$ Goodyear Wrangler SR-As. That will save me a trip to the local Firestone store to swap them out. I wouldn't have Goodyears on my lawn mower!

While I don't want this to start being a good tire/bad tire thread, I have to say that the stock Goodyear RT/S's on my XJ are the best tire I have ever owned. This is our third set on a vehicle with 225,000 miles. While I'm not a off road warrior, my XJ does see a lot of farm fields, dirt, gravel, and muddy roads. For what I ask of a tire, the RT/S just can't be beat.
