: 2009 Jeep Patriot Buying Advice
ploc36 02-17-2009, 11:46 AM I m a newbie on this site. Looking at a 2009 Patriot Ltd, wondering if members can give me some tips on what options are important & the difference between a 2008 vs 2009. Plus what incentives are available
& what generally is the selling price on the 09s.
Thanks in advance
davecanuck 02-17-2009, 12:08 PM Our advice depends on what you intend to use the vehicle for: off-road, on-road. The Limited is already "loaded up" with most of the options, leather seats, etc. A lot of these options are just personal preference.
The dealers are not really moving much on price but your experience may vary. But please do not put any money on the table to "hold" a vehicle. Even if you live in a small town be prepared to drive 20 - 40 - 60 miles down the road for a more pleasant buying experience.
The major difference between the 08 and 09 Patriots is the redesigned interior. The 09 interior is a bit more "friendly." Options are just a personal preference.
ploc36 02-17-2009, 01:30 PM Thanks guys for your take. With the past winter snow storm here in the Pacific Northwest, I would like to get something that can take me around in the snow. As the price of the Freedom II package is relatively reasonable, i was thinking of getting that. With the raised height, that will give me extra clearance for the snow.
As with not much price movement, any idea as to why? Looking at US pricing, seems like they have a lot more incentives?

Are you west of the cascades, or east of them.
Take an evening and read thru the posts of our central Canada, midwest friends on the abilities of the Pat in the snow
May also be useful to read threads on 4x4 on, 4x4 off, ESP on/off
A few threads on tires as well, although you may have to trade off "ice traction" vs "snow traction"
Of course all of this can be done in the most basic sport model, other options as mentioned personal preference.
I took delivery after the snow so can't really comment on snow/ice handling and we have had mostly cold and dry so far in Feb so not rainy season yet.
Have not followed incentives but even in Canada those 0% ads are for the 8cyl lineup.
dadunkindude 02-17-2009, 06:21 PM I took delivery of mine just after a snow storm in Colorado. Immediately after taking delivery, (I'd say within an hour) a friend of mine and I took it out into a snow covered field and started testing its traction capabilities (read: try and get it to skid). While the snow wasn't very deep, (I think this actually may have been better, since deep snow provides more resistance) I was impressed with how well it worked in 4x4 lock. I have the 2009 25E Manual, so no FDI or FDII for me. Taking off the 4x4 lock, I was able to detect a little more "looseness" in the handling. With ESP off completely, handling of the vehicle was noticeably degraded (and the most fun!). Granted, my test was not done in actual "traffic conditions," but I felt I was able to get a good feel of the Patriot's handling in the snow, as I was intentionally trying to find where the vehicle would lose traction. My .02.

I live in the Lower Mainland. Have a weekend place down in Birch Bay WA. I have a 2005 Honda Pilot 4X4 that gets the family around, but one of my other cars lease is up in June, thus thinking of getting another 4x4.
After researching on-line & visiting a few dealership, I have my heart set on the Patriot. As it is the nicest looking 4x4 around, & is priced very reasonable. Even with all the CVTII, FDII, Security & Cargo Group + DVD/NAV, it's around $28K b/f incentives. Then on Monday, went & test drove it, loved it. The ride was very well controled, not hard yet not soft.
Now, i am working with Columbia to see if they can locate a Patriot with all the options i want. Will keep everyone posted.
B.C.George 02-22-2009, 03:40 AM Hi ploc36,
We picked up our 09 Patriot just before Christmas it snowed like mad all the way home to the island, we are nothing but happy with it. We got it at the main CARTER dealership in Vancouver and they went out of their way to get us into what we wanted for the best price. 09, 4x4, manual 5 speed, 16 inch wheels very basic in black, everything we wanted and with none of the bells or whistles for $ 18,500.00 plus taxes. As I said we are very happy, good luck.

ploc36 04-04-2009, 08:26 PM Just an update: Last Thursday put in my order with Maple Ridge Chrysler with the above specs & added the Sun & Sound Group. Noe he waiting begins. Wondering if Jeep will be in business long enough to built my Riot?
Understand some of their factories are running out of parts & have to shut down. Anyone with inside scoop as to if the Patriot factory is affected?
Thanks.
Took delivery May 15th 2009. 300km the first 2 days, enjoying it very much, GREAT vehicle.
