Ive been looking to see something like that too..
but I realized that with jeeps most people probably only customize to take it off-road
im hoping to see someone make it more 'city' customization rather than off-road eventually

I personally have only seen 3 patriots I own one of them the others where on car lots. I don't live in a small town, I live in Houston, Texas I haven't seen any in passing either so I haven't seen anything but stock wheels. I don't think it would look too bad on a sport but it would look ridiculous on a limited. Everytime I turn around someones talking about chrome 20's or 22's. I cant for the life of me figure out why people roll around with cars falling apart 10 different colors dirty as can be but have them 20 inch chrome wheels shined and polished. My friend who bought my old wrangler from me a few years ago had it painted burnt orange and he's got burnt orange wheels on it now. If your going to do something you might as well go big or go home. :)

I don't think it would look bad at all with the limited..
especially if eventually you got chrome front/back bumpers
but even without it would be cool

Looks sick, what size tire? I know you said 25 profile...but how about the rest? I'm wondering what size tire I can run with a 20" rim on the PAT.....what did you do about rubbing?

Tirerack.com told me that a 255/45-20 tire with a 20 x 8.5 wheel (offset 35mm to 40mm) should fit the Patriot but I'd like to know for sure before making a purchase.

I'm putting 22" wheels on my patriot. I have contacted nstallr about the wheels on his jeep regarding wheel width, offest and complete tire size. He will be contacting me when he finds out that information and I'll let you know when he does. With that informtaion you can figure out what 20" wheel/tire combination will fit the patriot. natallr said he didn't have to do any modifications to the suspension to make the 24" fit and he was told that he can even lower his Jeep and the wheels will still fit fine!! I'm hoping that you can put a wheel wider than 8.5" on the patriot because I haven't been able to find a 24 x 8.5 wheel online, all of them are 10" wide. However, his wheels might be custom made.

here are the specs:

wheels :22x8.5" DUB Cream with a 38mm offset
tires: 255/35R-22 Toyo Proxes 4

I have test fit the wheels with tires on the jeep and they barely fit. I wasn't sure if the tires would fit so I only ordered a single tire, now I have to wait a few days for the other 3 to show up.

See pics below, I was only able to take a couple before my camera died:

Now I only have a few more mods to do and my Jeep will be exactly how I want it! It's a good thing my Jeep didn't come with a trail rated badge, lol.

It actually isn't that bad from what I noticed so far, I just put them on yesterday. The Jeep corners better and grips better to the road. If I go over a bump I feel it a little more but it is not as bad as I was expecting.

Thanks, yes I don't plan on taking it offroading with the wheels anyways, I can always put my stock rims if I want to. I just bought 4 new sensors and they worked fine for me. I didn't have to calibrate them or anything. I just drove around with the wheels on and everything set itself up automatically. My wheels have 2 holes for valve stems on them. One on the dish at front of the wheel for a regular stem and one hole on the back lip for the tire pressure sensor to fit in.

Nice! I wondered what it would look like DUBed. Only thing... You need to drop that bitch down at least two inches. This may be an issue with the lower spring plate, but I'm confident someone can make it happen. Maybe air-suspension so you can raise it back up for winter driving?

yep that is correct. I would lean more towards an offset of +35 though, mine are a +38 and it is really close to rubbing when I've got the wheels cranked all the way to one side. Or you can go with a 8" wide wheel just to be safe.

thanks for all the comments from everybody else aswell, good or bad.

I'll post some more pics in the gallery when I have time. I want to borrow a friends camera to take the pics because my camera is a P.O.S. and he is out of town for a whlie.

I would like to lower it in the future aswell. Air suspension would be nice!!

Hi all,

If anyone wants to pt 20" wheels, perhaps the Jeep Patriot Startech edition can be used as a benchmark. Startech just recently announced that they will have modification kit for the Patriot which inlcudes subtle bodykit, interior trim, wheels & suspension and engine management system. Although it is based on the Euro CRD version. Go to www.startech.de & look up the NEWS section.

JB what part of the tire is really close to rubbing?

The outside under hard turn?

or the inside of the tire against the suspension or inner wall under hard turn?

The reason I ask is I'm ordering 17x8 rims (+10 offset) w 255/60/17 tires, and from what you suggested saying go for +35 instead of +38 means its better to have your tire stick out a little more.

Thats why I'm interested because my wheel will stick out another 22mm more than yours. Inner clearance is not an issue for me, however I'm worried under a full turn the outside of the tire may rub. How close is yours?

Nice ryde 'JB'. I'm using 19's on my 08' Pat. Did you specifically search for a rim w/2 holes to accommodate the sensors? Do you think the sensors would attach securely enough w/o the additional hole? (unfortunately, my rims only have the outer hole). Would you mind disclosing the price of the sensors? By the way, do you plan on tinting the front side windows? Are you planning on changing your stock muffler to one of those polished/stainless steel catback systems? Because the stock muffler is fairly exposed & and mounted in a sideways configuration, a blingy muffler/tip would show up quite well. :smiley_thumbs_up:

02-19-2008, 11:34 PM
Sorry It took me so long to reply. My rub issue is on the inside tires under hard turns. I'm gonna get some 5/32" spacers and that will fix any issues. The wheels arent on right now because I've put winter tires on the stock wheels so I'm not sure how much room I had on the outside. I'm also going to lower my Jeep now that H&R makes lowering springs for the Pat, it lowers it about 1.5 inches around.

JB what part of the tire is really close to rubbing?

ambientcafe;

Nope, my wheels just came with the holes predrilled. I got the sensors for about $40 each but I got a really good deal on them. The sensors should fit in the other wheels depending on the location of the hole for the stem. The sensor is pretty long on the inside so if you blow a tire you could end up snapping the stem on the inside if the stem isn't close enough to the inside of the wheel. So if the hole for the stem is in the same location on the the stock wheel then it sould be fine. On my dub wheels the stem on the outside in on the "dish" so if I ever blew a tire it would snap the stem for sure.

Yes I'm gonna get my front windows tinted to match the rest. I've also smoked out the signal lights and blacked out the muffler/exhaust for now. My winter wheels are also painted black. I'm kind of going for a stealth look in the winter lol. I plan on getting a performance exhaust put on in a couple months. That's something I plan on doing early spring which is when I'm gonna get lowering springs installed! One other thing I plan on doing when the roads are free of gravel is get the silver bumper pieces painted black and shaving off all the emblems. I might even get the "patriot" filled in on the rear bumper before it's painted. What are your thoughts?

sleeper22,

where did you get the price list for the startech kit? I've been trying to find them & no luck. Startech have been known to have high prices on their items. A friend owns a 300c & he bought a startech mesh grill for around AU$800, eventhough there are other options with way cheaper prices.

jepstr67

I'm going to assume that those interested in this type of large wheel, small tire combo are 4x2 on road only vehicles. I can't see that being very useful off road or in snow. It would not be my choice, but Everybody likes different things. If you like big chrome wheels, go for it.

There is more to the handle and mirror project than meets the eye. Remember, all the screws that hold that stuff on are inside the door. Which means you have to disassemble the door from the inside first. I've see stainless mirror covers in my exploits in hunting for after market parts but I can't remember where.

Thanks for the reply JB your info really helped! I will be ordering my wheels sometime in March. After running the offset calculations my wheels will extend out 14mm more than yours with spacers. Hopefully that is a minimal enough difference.

Let me know when you put them back on in the spring. It would really help knowing how close the wheels are to rubbing on the outside.

Main difference is cause the tyres are soo wide they stick like glue when going around corners :)

I just put 20's on my Patriot and had a hard time finding a tire width for the 20x8.5 rim that wouldn't rub. I ended up finally finding a tire that is 245/40/20. The 255 width was good too with no rubbing but they didnt have it in stock. a 45 series tire was my ideal choice but none in stock anywhere in the 245 or 255 width. A lot of shops were saying a 275 width would fit but it was way too wide and no way it would clear the wheel wells on a turn without rubbing. I posted pics in the tire suspension section with specs and sizes as well if you're interested. I was having a hard time finding sizes of tires people were using on here so hopefully the size and specs I listed will help another Pat owner out
