So what's the deal with the automatic shift-knob? Some pictures show the stick with a nice Jeep branded knob (attached) while others show a plain metal version (not as nice if you ask me)
Are there two? How to get one or the other?

Who got what?

EDIT: I also noticed that some have the climate control dials in silver (attached) and some in black. Hmmm.

I got these pictures from here: http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/JeepPatriot/Photos.htm

...man that green is nice:smiley_thumbs_up:

I don't think you can ask for them... maybe the Jeep branded knob and the silver climate controls were an early test/demo kinds. The climate controls on mine are black, and the auto shift knob is without the Jeep name.

I'm also pretty sure I've seen one.

Probably one of the small differences between the Sport v. Limited. Notice due to the leather seat the above pics are of a LTD, which also has a chrome piece surrounding the gauge cluster. My Sport has black piece around the gauges, and black HVAC controls.

My limited definitely doesn't have that shift knob, nor do I remember my air vents looking like that. It's just another one of those concept models versus the production model. In the pictures, it also shows that there's a button next to the heated seats that can turn off the passenger air bag.

I also have a limited. I have the plain knobe. However, I did notice the Jeep branded know in a Compass I sat in.

I was at the local dealer's today and looked inside their ONLY Patriot, a limited CVT -- the knob was chrome with no "Jeep" logo. Looked inside of one of the several Limited CVT Compasses onsite and, yep, their chrome knob has the Jeep logo.

What gives? Is this where the $750 price difference between the Patriot and Compass comes into play? Well, that and the 18" tires...

That isn't a button, it's just a light for the air bag sensor in the passenger seat.

same difference, it's still not there like it is in the pictures, just like the shift knob

I must be missing something....are you referring to the "ESP OFF" button between the driver's side seat heat button, and the center hazard light button (red triangles)? There is a blank unused button location between the center hazard light button and the pass seat heat button.

"ESP OFF" is for the Electronic Stability Program, which can be turned OFF for driving on snow or loose sand where some wheel slip may be beneficial.

But I don't see a light or a button regarding the air bag off...

Good video regarding ESP:http://youtube.com/watch?v=NiZjeeMExY4Patriot is shown from 29-19 seconds remaining in this clilp, which was posted on 09/22/06.

Knob was probably a custom to show that the interior is from a jeep for the picture.

It's just a light that comes on only when someone (or something) is sitting in the passenger seat that's heavy enough for the sensor but not heavy enough for the safe deployment of the front airbag. It's a child safety feature.
Try it with something like a laptop or a couple of grocery bags.

My dealer's pulling a "Jeep" knob off of a Compass and putting it on mine (if it ever arrives) as part of the deal.

What passenger seat airbag light?

My Patriot has the heated seat switch on the far left, the ESP OFF switch, next, followed by the Hazard Lamp switch.

I've never noticed there might be a airbag light. I'll check it out.

Nope, no passenger airbag light on my Patriot.

Heated seat, ESP OFF, Hazard, Blank panel, Heated seat.

Nope, no passenger airbag light on my Patriot.

Heated seat, ESP OFF, Hazard, Blank panel, Heated seat.

The blank panel next to the right heated seat switch is where it should be if they still have them. It should light up for about 6 seconds when you first turn the key on, and then go out unless there is an object in the seat weighing more than about 5-10 pounds but less than about 70 pounds. The light only illuminates for bulb check or when its disabled the pass air bag. When it thinks nothing is in the seat the bag is disabled, but the bulb will not illuminate.

I wouldnt be surprised if they do away with it though. They did this with the LX because it was a PITA. People would complain about the light being on, or not being on thinking they had a problem. The reality was they just didnt understand the system. When it lights up isnt a choice DCX made, the Feds mandate the light and when it illuminates. They got around it on late 06 LXs by never fully disabling the pass airbag, it will always fire but if the weight is too low it will fire at greatly diminished strength so they dont have to use a disable light anymore.

yeah, there definitely is no light located there, but it is in some of the pictures that are in the brochures. But that's why they put that little disclaimer at the back of the book talking about these are only concept pictures and may ship differently.

thats a worry of mine about ordering a patriot...I think I know what I will get but when it arrives, am I going to get something less than what I expected

Well how many switches do you guys have there? 4 or 5?
Are you saying that the fourth switch (from the right) is blank?

As ktek01 mentionned, it should light up for about 6 seconds when you first turn the key on. My Compass has this light anyway...

Yes, 4th switch from the Left is blank on mine. It does not light.

On the ones I've seen, you have to stick your face real close to make out the picture. Did you try to put heavy groceries and such on the front passenger seat?

Check out the pic attached. It's from another vehicle but it's pretty close to the same pic except the new Jeeps say "X4" instead of "X2"

I just went out and looked again.

There is no graphic. The panel is blank.

It does not light up when I turn the ignition on.

It does not light up when I apply pressure to the seat and turn on the ignition.

The owners manual shows that spot as being a non-functional blank panel.

There is no passenger side airbag light on the Patriot, I would say.

Probably the light for the side mirror defrosters :dead_horse:

Any one knows if the knob is a separate piece or it is part of the shifting stick.

InfernoPatriot
04-30-2007, 03:11 PM
It's separate.

When I drove my Patriot off the lot, the knob came off in my hand.

I pushed it down and it sort of popped into place.

Geez...like I said just ask for the other knob...the dealer should be obliged to hook you up. I don't understand why they put the crappy plain metal one on the Patriot anywhay while the Compass gets the nice one.

I noticed that in the picture that was a Trail Rated Pat, so when I had a delivery on one today I looked. No Jeep logo shifter knob, and no pass airbag disable light. IIRC it had a build date of January 07. I had a Compass going out and it had the Jeep shifter and PADL. I have not seen anything yet from Jeep on when it changed, but may see something on the PADL. I doubt they will mention the shift knob since its not an advertised feature nor is it on the window sticker.
