I'm not in Australia, but here in Phoenix last summer I had 131°F (55C) on the EVIC after leaving it sitting in the sun for a long day. (air temp about 118°F - 48C)

I'm curious how human beings survive in temps like that. Hottest I've ever seen was 42˚C (107˚F), once in Pheonix, and once in Trail, BC. Thought I was going to die.

When it's 118 - most of us stay indoors!
Although with the right clothes on and alot of water, its not as bad as it sounds.

You see landscapers and roofers and construction workers outside in the afternoon during the summer all the time.

Not the Highest but last week here in the midwest my temp read -20F in the garage.
What I would give for some warm days right now.

If you have to be outside, for work or something, I'd take 118F over -20F every day. But maybe I'm just used to it. I've lived here for almost 30 years.

Summers in Kefalonia, Greece temp is over 40 every day. 43 is one of the max i've seen in my previous car since my Pat is only 1 month old. But when left for hours in direct sun, the temp has reached 46-47. And the colour was silver.

Tasar,
What's a normal summer high temp for you in Melbourne? 45C (113F) seems very warm for a coastal city. Although that would be normal here in June. I think we have 35-40 days a year with high temps of about 45C.

very hot for melbourne - 3 of the 5 hottest days since the 1850's
We normally get about 3-6 weeks over 35 degrees from christmas through to end of feb - avge about 27-30 so normally get a few cooler days not this year though

Have had no rain in 2009 at all - garden is really struggling

That would be right. Office is just off Sydney Road. Will be working there for a few months before we relocate to port melbourne.

Bit of a resurrection for this thread from our friends in Aus.
Got a reading of 40 C yesterday. We continue to break temp records in Vancouver every day this week.
Now we also have a forest fire in the vicinity of Whistler mountain. they will move heaven and earth to control that one.

We are not that hot on the East coast. I believe right now it is about 22C, however, we have had so many days of rain and no Sun that some of the trees are starting to turn brown.

You get all the heat and Sun we get all the rain and cruddy weather. :(

good luck with the fires... 40c sounds nice now, but I guarantee when summer rolls around in a few months we will be complaining about it. Peaking 14-15c here at the moment.

Phil

You are sending some people from Australia and the New Zealanders are as well. Thanks for your contributions of manpower.

Fire officials in British Columbia say they aren't letting their guard down even though cooler temperatures have cut the number of new fire starts in half and no new evacuation orders have been issued in the last 24 hours.

The Mount McLean fire that's forced more than 2,000 Lillooet residents from their homes is now estimated at 36 square kilometres.

We hit a bad milestone last night... overnight low per the local NBC news was 96°F (35°C) Ugh!
(I think the official low was 90°F at the airport)

The weather man said that a cold front was coming through for the weekend though. Highs should only be mid 100's by then :(

I am so ready for summer to be over.
