I just wanted to check and see if anyone has taken their Patriot up to the Catskills. How does it fare up there? I am relocating to North Jersey so I wanted to check in regarding that.

Thanks!

I know there's a Jeep Jamboree there every year, though I forgot the exact location.

on a dry day, my lifted FDII would make it through the first four minutes of this, but I'd go with someone else to pull me out if needed. I'd definitely need to use the low gearing of the FDII though. I wouldn't attempt it in Drive, and probably wouldn't make it through the deeper ruts left by the big rigs.

And with the stock SR-A's, I'd probably get a flat too.

ok those are some hardcore trails...i was talking more about trails like these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=am_PC39XJi8&feature=related

do they have any of those types of trails in the catskills? i would like to do some mild-mid off-roading with the patriot and go camping, etc. i know the trail in that video is from arizona...but i am referring to the severity of the trail...

sorry, all I did was search for catskills. Never been there myself.

Although every mountain I know has logging roads on it, and that sounds like what you're looking for.

Never been in Catskills NY before but one of my buddies told me that there are nice places for some off-roading in that area...

Heck, that is almost extreme CJing. If you don't roll it you aren't going Xtreme. Great vids all.
I was out in the fine sand this weekend with a bro. Again the deep sand ruts almost swallowed our 4x2. Seems the 2.4L can really pour on the power to the fronts when I need it.
Can't wait to see some Xtreme Pat trailin'vids.
As far as Pats go in the deep stuff just remember. When you are on your belly, break out the winch.:D
My bud suggested a winch on the front. Anyone know of a Pat frame mounted winch or have one with pics?

no, but that's why I bought the highlift jack - to be able to lift it up and put rocks/dirt under the wheels if needed.

I also liked that quote, Wymntnmedic. It reminded me of what someone once told my son when my kid said he was taking up sailing. "You're WHAT! You DO know what BOAT stands for, don't you? B_O_A_T. Break Out Another Thousand!"

It is rather unlikely that there would be any ready-made products for the Patriot. Custom-fabricated should not be impossible though. I know one place in Finland sells detachable winch mounts - you mount the winch only when you need it, rest of the time it stays in the trunk. That setup would be legal even with our stupid laws!

Are you planning on using a winch a lot? Using a manual winch (or a high-lift jack as a winch) seems like a lot of work, but they would be much cheaper... And you could hook it up to the front or rear, depending on situation.

Tony, removable is the way to go. You would have to make a mount to the tow-hook areas on frame. Just need to bring your own tree!:D Or a lot of cable.
