Hey guys, just want to check-in and introduce myself.
I'm 27 and have always been an import/tuner lover and have had my share of tuners the last few years. I've had an integra, a couple of civics, a celica, and a turbo supra. I'm not one of those import/rice boys with large fart cans and the such. I've always liked my cars to be clean looking (no ugly tail lights and fancy lights). I'm more into real performance like engine swaps, tuning, tight suspensions, functional light weight rims, etc...

To fast forward, in the last 2 years or so I've gotten married and now have a 9 month old baby and currently driving around a civic sedan. Needless to say, it's just way too small for my family.

I've been researching around and test driving small to mid size SUV's and we've come up to the final 2 decisions.

We're now looking at the 2007 Honda CRV which is very much respectable. However, just doesn't have that trail/4x4 appeal that I want. It's driveability is so much better then other SUV's in it's class. Then there's the Patriot. I've researched, checked out the brochures and its got the most value for the money. I've been looking for a Southern Ontario dealership to test drive one but no one has it. I did however find a rental place that has it and I have the Pat booked for this weekend. It's a North (E) Package with only the 4x2. My wife and I are looking at getting the North (E) package with FDII and almost fully loaded. Only reason why we won't be getting the Limited is because we despise the Leather and with a child it just isn't the right choice right now.

Both the CRV and the Pat have similar engine specs and I was thinking of getting something with 6 cyclinders but then the price of gas has made me think otherwise. Plus, I won't be towing anything or doing any hardcore 4 wheeling. However, I do like getting out of Toronto so there are many chances of mild trailing.

Hope that wasn't a hard read, but I'm just checking in and saying Hello!

Hey Jeelo just today I visited a Chrysler dealer here in Etobicoke and saw couple of Patriots on the lot.One of them had after market 17 inch aluminum rims with yokohama tires and it looked awsome.Dundas and Kipling Chrysler is the one if you are interested.Too bad I didn't know abou the option to order those rims but I guess that's a extra effort of the individual dealer if they install non stock parts on their cars.

Welcome Jeelo. Good luck on making your decision. I considered a CR-V too because, afterall, it is a Honda and I have no doubt that it drives great. However, it just doesn't have that muscular rugged appeal like the Patriot. Also, I think you can get more features on the Patriot for less money. Not to mention, the Patriot has the Freedom Drive II Off-road Group if you are so inclined.

Belveder thanks for tip on the Dundas and Kipling dealership. As for aftermarket parts like rims and stuff, I'm all done with that. It's family time and I'm totally content on the way the Patriot comes.

CPAJeeper, the CR-V is a great little SUV. It does hold true to the Honda name but like you said you get more features for less money. And yes I will be getting the FDII off-road group with mine if I decide to get it.

Jeelo!

Hey! Hope you chose the Jeep Patriot. Much better looking than that station wagon, CRV. If you plan on offroading, the FDII is up for the challenge. MPG are fair, about 21 city, 23 highway. This is better than a nissan xterra I owened, 14 city, 18 highway, and the patriot can easily travel the same trails the xterra traversed. Good luck!

Hi Jeelo. I checked out Raceway on Rexdale Blvd., Brennan on Dixie in Brampton and Brampton Chrysler on Bovaird. The last had the best selection - a white Limited in the showroom. They have then available for test drives. haven't checked out Team Chrysler yet.

The CRV will hold its value because it's a Honda and the CRV has history. It is wait and see with the Jeep. Jeeps tend to be vehicles for the long haul as opposed to trading every couple of years the way Honda would like. My 1998 Jeep Cherokee is looking good and running just fine after 9 years.

The Patriot will replace my ailing Ford Escort Wagon.
