the 2.0 is only avaible for 2wd CVT Pats, its optional the 2.4 is standard. I think Chrysler di it so they could claim they have a CVT that is rated 30MPH on the highway. I doubt you will see many packaged this way.

The 2.4 is the standard engine. The optional engine is the smaller 2.0, for which buyers get a $200 credit. Fuel mileage is almost the same, although there is a huge difference in horsepower and torque.

All in all, the driving experience with the larger engine should be more rewarding, making it the better choice for most Patriot owners. It is also likely that the $200 will be recouped when the Patriot is resold.

I think this odd arrangement of making the big engine standard is a result of the fact that the Patriot is a "world car," designed to be sold in Europe as well as the US and Canada. Many European countries place huge consumer-paid taxes on larger engines. I wouldn't be surprised if this caused the 2.0 to be more popular in Europe than the North American favorite 2.4

In Europe (at least in my knowledge) the 2.0lt engine is not sold. Instead they sell the 2.0 diesel and of course the 2.4lt which is also available on the new Mitsubishi Outlander
