This was taken from MIKE'S TOTALLY FREE JEEP NEWS NOW. It is from a Chrysler Group press release.
This answers one of my big questions. Would the Caliber, Patriot, and Compass share the SAME underbody? The answer seems to indicate that the Jeeps will be "tougher" than the Caliber's.
"Jeep Compass' (and Patriot) underbody is designed to meet more demanding durability requirments based on Jeep vehicle requirements."

Not sure if the actual underbody will be tougher (ie.heavier). My guess would be the availability of skids/armor.

I didn't think the Compass is available with skid plates. I went online and built one on that test site, and I didn't notice it as an option. I'll look again.

I don't think skids are available on the Compass.
It would be interesting to see a "raw" picture of the Caliber's, Compass', and Patriot's undersides--without any skid plates--to see what/if any differences there are.

Hope this clears things up a bit...
