rear subframe rust

Hello,

Has anybody had any experience with dealing with rear subframe rust problem?

Just came back from my (independent) mechanic. I dropped off the car because of a knock in rear suspension. He found some problems (bushings etc), however the big problem is rusted rear subframe.
This apparently is a common problem on 2007 model year vehicles and was under warranty:
Jeep Compass / Patriot, Dodge Caliber Get Extended Warranty For Rust
I called FCA Canada Customer Care and they said that the warranty on this expired Dec 2016.

Is there anything I can do?

Car is 2007 Jeep Compass

Thanks,
Wojtek

You're past the 10 year subframe warranty. You can see if FCA will goodwill part of the replacement costs. Only other choice is to replace it with another new/used crossmember.

Reach out to Jeep Cares on this website. They've been helpful to many on this site.

FCA (Jeep) extended the warranty for the front and rear crossmembers to 10 years from DATE OF SERVICE, which I believe means when your vehicle was purchased, not when it was manufactured.

I would definitely check with Jeep cares. I received a letter for my 2008 from FCA about a month ago. My extended warranty based on my date of service will expire in April 2018. Matter of fact, after I received the letter, I contacted Jeep Cares and they also just reimbursed me $100 that I paid for a deductible on a good will warranty replacement of the front crossmember that was done 2 years ago.

My rear subframe is rusty but as of two years ago was not condemnable. I plan to get it in for my free yearly inspection of that crossmember in the next few weeks.
