Gas Cap & Malfuction Light

Anybody having GASCAP error followed by Engine Malfuction Light (Not Flashing)? I have re-seated the cap...no luck. I smell a service call.

Thanks!

What can happen with a gas cap if it is not on right is that it will do that and take several (don't know how many) driving cycles (where it is driven and shut off) before it re-sets itself. However, since yours is new and in warrenty, stop at the dealer and ask the service manager just to be sure. They can/should check it out.

yes,I did

I replaced my cap with an aftermarket lockable cap and the light came on very soon afterwards,
I called the dealer and he just told me to put on back the original cap and then wait few days and the warning light will go away on its own, sometimes the warning light may come up when the cap isn't fastened properly

Try a MOPAR lockable gas cap from the Dealer and that should work. Make sure the code is cleared first. They are not that much money and if that one does not work then they should REFUND your money since it is MOPAR. Ask your Dealer and see what he says. MOPAR wouldn't sell them if they didn't work. I put a MOPAR one on my jeep and had no problem with it. I think this is one of those things that you can sometimes have problems with if you are using an aftermarket product.

Just a thought.

thanks,it's about 60 bucks,what a ripoff
I just keep the original until gas hits something like 200$ - 300$ per barrel then it may be time to get the lockable one

Just got back from the dealer. Replaced the cap, still got the error. They needed to order a new "fuel leakage sensor". Going back in on Saturday. I'll let you all know if that fixes it.

They also fixed the rear gate, it would not close right. Sales guy said it was air trapped in the cabin. Tech said that was BS and fixed it...

So the saga continues...went back to the dealer to relpace the so called "bad fuel leakage sensor" and the tech admitted to me that it was actually missing...

After waiting 2 hours he comes back and says the engine light is off but the GASCAP Error is still there. He says to cycle the engine a few times and it may go away.

One week later...still have the GASCAP Error and the engine light is back on. Going back to the dealer again - round three on Monday. Not happy...1700 miles 3 visits for the same issue and..."missing parts"

Stay tuned...

I'm starting to think it was a good idea for me to buy a new 07 in 2008. It had 500 test driving km on it, so the dealer probably worked out the little bugs.

I had this issue with my Durango it turned out there was a small leak in a fuel line which helped pressurized the fuel tank. The computer requires the tank to be sealed to pressurize so it can monitor the emissions system.

this is a good reason why you SHOULDN'T fill your tank with the engine running. it won't always do it, but it more than likely WILL set the 'Check Engine' light off.

don't know about all of you, but i absolutely HATE 'idiot lights' and this one especially!!! dealers hate it as well as 'Check Engine' can mean anything from a loose gas cap to a MAJOR malfunction.

if you're light comes on, it's ALWAYS best to consult your dealer ASAP.
