Got an 'URGENT Safety Recall' in the mail today.

Got a recall notice for my 2014 Latitude in the mail today

Here's what it says:
Quote:
Our records show an open safety recall on your vehicle.
VIN: ########
Recall: S61 Occupant restraint controller
Act now to protect your passengers and vehicle
Pleas call today to book repair service
We apologize for any inconvenience
Anyone else get one?

This recall was announced last October 2016, but there was no remedy at the time. I received the initial recall notice last fall. They predicted that actual repair work would begin in mid 2017.

moparado, is your notice the first type, or does yours actually indicate that they are now ready to fix it?? Your post seems to indicate the second example....ready to fix.

And......before anyone gets their shorts in a bunch over these fiascoes, the same sort of delays are happening with the multi million vehicle Takata Airbag recalls. The lawyers must be salivating at the prospect of injuries from the delayed repairs.

I also got that initial notice back in Fall 2016 which indicated there was no fix at that time.
It also indicated Chrysler would contact me when a fix is available in the future.

Fast forward to now May 12 '17.
This safety recall notice looks like a real deal recall in that Chrysler finally found a fix.
It has wording like:

ACT NOW
URGENT
URGENT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR VEHICLE
FOR MORE INFORMATION, VISIT: recalls.mopar.com

This is also on the post card:
The ph. no. for my nearest Jeep dealer to book an appointment.

Return address on the post card which could be FCA corporate:
25330 Interchange Court
Farmington Hills, MI 48335

Yup. Wasn't paying attention was I? Wifey's is a 2014 as well. Maybe in a day or two we'll get something in the mail.

Hi moparado,

The parts are not yet available for the S61 recall to be performed. Dealerships do have the capability to send out notices alerting their customers of recalls--is your Jeep dealership located in Farmington Hills?

If you head over to www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls, you can sign up for an email alert to be notified as soon as parts are available.

Would you mind trying to post a picture of what you received in the mail? Just blur out any identifying information.

Jeep cares,

Do you know when the airbag recall will ever actually happen? I got my notice months and months ago but have yet to hear anything about the parts being available. What is the point of declaring a recall if they don't intend to actually do anything about it?

I can't speak for FCA, but my guess is that they thought the airbags worked when they were installed. If it was only a loose screw it could have been done, but in this case I suspect there is a flaw in the system itself. I'm sure they intend to do the recall but they have to redesign the system so that it overcomes whatever the shortfall was with no trade-offs. The redesign takes time and then they have to put whatever parts are needed into production. They were making thousands of Patriots every month for a couple years before they discovered the problem -- now they have to outfit thousands of Patriots with the new parts . . . in addition to performing routine maintenance and repairs on those aging Patriots that many of us still have. It will likely take many months to get them all done.

Thanks moparado--I can confirm this is from the dealership, not from FCA corporate. I do apologize again for the confusion--parts are not available just yet.

Hi Taylor,

We do send out two notices, one to inform you that a recall is occurring, and then a second letter to let you know when parts are available. I definitely recommend signing up to receive email alerts by going to www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls, and that way you'll know even sooner as to when parts are available.
