HELP!!! ETC (Electronic Throttle) Body Assembly Cost

Hello all! New to the forum, but have an emergency question.

My fiancee has a 2014 Patriot and last week noticed the ETC light come on and then felt the accompanying "skip" while accelerating on occasion. Not consistent and not extremely rough.

Took it in this morning and received feedback that the Throttle Body Assembly needed to be replaced, they needed to flash the TCM (computer I guess), do a tuneup/replace spark plugs, which would be approximately $1,340.

What does that sound like to you? Reasonable? Accurate diagnostic?!?

Much appreciate your quick response!!!!!!

sounds like a complete ripoff
go elsewhere quickly

dealer cost for TB replacement should be about $600-$700
some have bought TB for as low as $140 and have replaced it themselves

reprogramming is resetting the TB to learn positions which can be done yourself,
turn key to acc, slowly depress gas peddle till reaches bottom, taking 10-15 seconds to do so, slowly release gas peddle at same rate,
turn car on,
thats the relearn procedure for TB

if dealer wont cover TB under warranty, have a regular mechanic do it

also, few things can trigger ETC light,
TB is one of the possibilities,
if dealer is ripping you off on cost, i wouldnt trust their diagnosis either,

Thank you for the quick reply...this was a quote from a Christian Brothers Automotive locally. I purposefully avoided the dealership for obvious known reasons for overquoting work etc.

when i had my TB replaced
it was at a NYC dealership, that charges $175/hr 2 hr minimum
and my cost was $800,
i didnt have options as to go elsewhere as my pat was dead in the water at that time

if you need spark plugs thats a seperete issue but not a costly one, $30-$50 for a shop to replace plugs
Tune up, long gone are the days of carbs and distributors, pats and modern cars dont require tune ups

Kind of what I thought all around. Appreciate the input and feedback immensely! Kind of bent over a barrel; she has to drive to Dallas for a soccer tourney and was taking the Patriot, and I have to drive out of town for baseball tournament or she could take mine. Either way, gotta have it done.

quick look at christian brothers reviews online
they have alot of bad reviews
mostly for overpriced,
misdiagnosis,
and shoddy work

compared it to shops i use,
who only have a few bad reviews,

Why wouldn't this be under warranty?

Sometimes a basic throttle body cleaning will fix the issue, it certainly worked on mine.

i recently had same issue. was covered under my lifetime added car plus plan. which did surprise me.

now if it wasn't, i would have ordered one form rockauto, the dorman lifetime warranty on part one for $140 and have my local blacks car care do it. they charge about 85$/hour and it's at most a 1 hour job. Could get it done for 230$ tops. And the dorman part looks to be a better part than OEM. The dorman spec mentions that these OEM throttle bodies have alot of failures and their redesign eliminates that.

next time, i may go that route versus paying the $100 deductible.....

putting it on myself may be an option as now i see that you have to do it from under neath, from up top it looks impossible.

plugs are easy and a breeze to do... just use a torque wrench set to about 20 ft lbs...

that quote is insanely high and i would NEVER have them touch my vehicle.

I have heard you can't clean these. something about if you do, you damage the shaft or something?

I've done it twice after the ETC lamp lit up. Pull intake duct off the throttle body, start it up and hit it with a can of TB cleaner. Worked each time.

on my 2013 it seems impossible to reach the throttle body side of the intake without going from underneath. is that how you did it?
