Patriot VIN: Decoder that gives the Sequence Numbers meaning?

I am wondering if anyone has or knows of a way to decode the 12-17 digits of the VIN. The first 11 digits give good general information but the actual "options" of the vehicle must be buried in these last "Sequence Numbers". Does anyone know the code? Are these numbers really just the "social security number" with no retrievable (by the general public) data?

I ask this because not all dealers give good information about the vehicle they are selling (beyond it is a Patriot, 4WD, Limited, CVT). I would like to be able to fill in the pieces by using the VIN (assuming it is even correctly entered).

Yeah, the parts list doesn't break those down. If there isn't a decoder and if chrysler doesnt' track how often you call, their hotline can give you the list of features on your vehicle (using the VIN #). That number is 800 992 1997.

Hey Joseph,

There is this, but not sure if the VIN sequence is the same.

You may already know this, but you can email Jeep customer support with your VIN and they will email you back a list of exactly all your options and their codes, and the exact build date.

Not sure if that will help.

I don't have a Patriot yet.

All of the above mentioned decoders only give the generic stuff that you can get most anywhere.
The vault of information is in those 12-17 digits. When you go to the recall part of the jeep website and put in the last 8 digits it will tell you what the first 11 mean, the problem is that it won't tell you the rest.

It would be really cool if Jeep would make it so that you could enter any vehicle VIN and be told all of the installed option codes and what they mean. Then when someone wants to purchase brand new or used they could find out the exact installed options for that vehicle.

This would be helpful because many dealers out there put all kinds of meaningless standard features in their ads and tend to leave out what options are installed. If they do that but provide the correct VIN, and there is a location to enter the VIN and get meaningful option information, the buyer can determine whether or not to even pursue it further.

The information exists, it would be nice for the internet to truly be a wealth of knowledge.

There is no vault of info in just those last numbers. They are simply a sequence number. The real information is in the Chrysler Broadcast system where the list of build options for that sequence number resides. As stated up above somewhere, Chrysler Customer Service will gladly give you if you fill out their email form and ask for it.

The other option, is to look at the dealer inventory through the Jeep.com website where you can look at individual vehicles window stickers. Unfortunately, they don't have '08s ion there yet, only the 2007's the dealers have.

Found this in the 07 Patriot Body Manual:
