Water in floorboards

My 2008 patriot (24,000 mi) just started having water in the floorboards. We have husky liners so it is all being caught by them. I assume this is AC condensation. You can hear it sloshing around in the dash board. When you turn left it hits the heater core and you can hear it boil. When you turn right, boiling hot water pours down on your right foot(I made the mistake of wearing crocs today and the hot water burned me). Anyone else have this happen yet? And if so, is it a warranty deal? I haven't had it in yet, wife only told me about the problem yesterday.

Ok, I answered my own question. There is an AC drain hose that exits the bottom of the vehicle near the "transmission hump/firewall". It is connected to the bottom of the AC unit via a 8" long rubber hose just above where your foot is when on the gas pedal. Either my son(3 years old) or a bug or some Oklahoma red dirt got in the lower part of the drain and clogged it up. I think my son put some change down the defrost vent at some point and it's made its way down to the lowest point of the sysemt, where the drain hole is and it will continue to clog unless I take the unit apart, which looks like one heck of a chore.

It is an easy fix. Have an unattached garden hose ready. All you have to do is pull the front floor mat. Pull the carpet back and locate the hose coming out of the bottom of the black AC housing. Pull the hose and hold the garden hose under the drain to catch the water so it doesnt flood your floor board. Blow the drain hose out or stick a wire down through it to clean it out. It's super easy to do.

PS sorry about the late reply, dont spend much time on here.

Finally fixed the water sloshing/hot water on the feet. It's just as described above. The drain tube had so much crud in there, I cant imagine how it got in. Here are some pics.

It's the L shaped tube next to the gas pedal.

Debris doesn't like to round the bends.

This is where it drains out.

All the crud! I took it inside, blew it out into the sink and rinsed it out.

Insane. I just commented a couple weeks ago, and then had the exact same problem last night! Thanks for the fix.

It really is A LOT of water! I was able to clear mine without full removal of the pipe. I pulled the lower end out, massaged the bends, and tugged it straight a few times, then WHOOSH! Folks, make sure you have a container handy. My carpet's pretty wet.

ac fixed - thanks a bunch !!!

:)

Found this while googling "ac leaking on feet in patriot" ...

My 2008 patriot had the same odd swooshing sound in the dash, only when I started using the ac. Me and my wife's toes were getting wet too and I was worried I would have to spend lots of money to take it to the dealer. I just followed the directions in this thread and bada-bing-bada-boom, fixed !!!

I gotta say, the pictures really made the difference. I hope we can all post pics in the descriptions like that so everyone really understands where the parts are located and what to avoid.

PS. I had a bunch of junk in the hose too, and when I was cleaning it in the sink, (just stuck an unsharpened pencil in half way one end at a time while straigtening the hose) some big ol' insect wings fell out followed by some muddy looking substance. I think what happens is all that time during the year when not using the ac and cycling water through the hose, bugs get stuck inside and the dirt somehow starts to collect around it. This leads me to believe that I might be having to clean out this hose once a year to prepare for those hot hot summers !

Also, yeah that was a heck of a lot of water that came out, def over a gallon, I filled up a whole large plastic salad bowl (use what you can). I couldn't find a water hose to divert the water away so the bowl was just fine. Also I don't think there's enough time to switch the two hoses to divert the water cause once you pull that ac drain hose off, it starts flowing pretty dang fast ! Do what I did, pull that hard carpet far out from under the gas pedal and from the corner as much as you can without totally bending the heck out of it, then pull the hose from the floor end out of the floor hole. Then scoop that large large plastic salad bowl or clean oil pan or whatever you got underneath the pedal and just under the nozzle that the drain hose connects to. If you do it right, the side of the bowl will fit snug right around the drain nozzle to keep all the water into the bowl. Make sure that the floor end of the hose is sitting in the bowl then pull the little drain hose out of the top end, might need a little twisting action, and let the water drain into the bowl...

I bet I just saved a ton of money. Very rewarding feeling ! Thanks guys for this awesome thread !

Been hearing water moving around for a little while on and off... tonight (it has been a few days very hot here) I had water dripping on my feet. I was a little surprise.

Thanks for the pics and info this was a 5 minute fix. Just make sure you have that hose ready because water will run out when you take the pipe off.

It was obstructed with grime, mud, bugs.. the usual suspects.

Thanks

Hey Y'all, I'm well aware that this is an old string, but it just saved my bacon.

I've got a 2007 Patriot, and everything described here (symptoms, diagnostics, solutions) were absolutely spot on. Was able to fix the jeep in a total of 8 minutes.

The only thing different between my situation and others I read was that my hose wasn't the thing that was clogged, but the actual spout that the hose is connected to.
When I pulled the hose off, nothing happened. (I was prepared for a torrential downpour!) After a few seconds though, this unidentifiable blob began to slowly appear out of the spout. Eventually, the weight of the water push out the clog, and I was able to put a water hose on the spout to divert the water out of the car. About a liter of water came out, and a lot of grime.

Anyways, just wanted to say a huge thank you to all for being able to help me make the wife happy!

2012 Patriot here,

I blow the A/C condensation drain tube out with an air compressor at least once a year. This is about a 10-minute job. Super easy and not worth spending $90.00 at the dealership.

One thought is: When you take it in for an oil change or do it yourself, just blow out the drain real quick. It is irritating but a simple solution all the same.

bumping a really old thread... but i have this problem with my 2011 Patriot. Used the AC this weekend on a long road trip and wound up with water all over the passenger side floor. Also remember hearing the sloshing of the water in winter but didn't get any leaking at that time i don't think.

Anyway, is the ac drain in the same place on the 2011 Patriot as is it on the 2008? The reason i ask is because 99% of the water is ending up on the passenger side, not the drivers side.
