New to Site, HELP with 2007 Jeep Compass Vibration

We are experiencing an issue with a 2007 Jeep Compass, CVT transmission, 2.4L. There is a bad vibration at approximately 30-40 mph. So bad that it feels like you are going over rumble strips in the road. It stops when you let off the gas. Not present at idle. It's not the transmission, not the axles. Both had been replaced and the problem persists. Very weird. Thought it was possibly the drive shaft but it only does it between 30-40 mph. Any suggestions?

Can you tell where the vibration is coming from? or where you feel it the most? Front, back, all 4 tires, steering wheel, floor, seats? etc.

Can you give more info on the replaced parts? how long ago, who preformed it, etc.

You said it stops when you let off the gas. If you press the gas pedal again while still going 30-40 does the vibration resume? Does the Vibration stop after 40 MPH?

Also, welcome to the site! I hope someone here can help with your problem.

thanks so much for the welcome. I'm a mechanic that owns a transmission shop. It's coming through the steering wheel, don't feel it anywhere else. Yes, when you let off the gas then hit the gas again, it usually starts again. Transmission was rebuilt 2 days ago and the axles were replaced today. About 10 minutes ago, I just took out the rear drive shaft, plugged the transfer case and drove it, no more vibration. However, if it was the drive shaft itself it should vibrate continuously, not only at 30-40mph. I am leaning towards something in the rear differential or the AWD unit. Any ideas?

If the vibes stopped after the drive shaft removal, then I would assume the culprit is the drive shaft or one of the components either side of it.

I thought that an imbalanced or warped drive shaft would resonate more at a certain RPM range.

Wouldn't the diff and awd unit still be functioning/rotating/working without the drive shaft in place?

Do you have a way to check if the shaft is balanced and straight? or a spare one to test drive with?

I'd put my money on the drive shaft, but I'm not mechanic, and I've been wrong before.

Welcome to the site.

If you haven't already read about it here, you'll find the the Patriot has some weak links in the front end that may be the culprits for your wobbling problem.

Check your balljoints & tie rod ends. If anything looks suspect, swap it out with a Moog part.

Have you tried putting it in 4wd to see if it changes? It might be a problem with the electronic coupler.

Well im not a mechanic, but if its only happening during acceleration could it be the motor mounts?

FWD vehicles can have a shake at a certain speed if the lug nuts are not all the same torque. I'd check that first, then go from there.
