Post Which tires fit & which ones don't (16")

Which tires fit & which ones don't

I have a 4x2 grey '07 with the stock 16" steelies and 35 k miles on the original 205 tires, (so they're about to kick it).
I've been looking up for what tires to buy in order to replace the originals, because I wanted something a little fatter than the original 205, but did not want to spend the extra cash on wider rims.
Consequently, I did a lot of reading and decide to chart what other members had tried already with & without modifications.
Again this is merely to save newbies some reading and it is limited to 16".
I am listing the tire & the member who tried it.
Whoever wants more info, just search their postings and will be able to check their pics.

Tires that fit w/o mods:

215/70/16 (Jimbobb1).
225/70/16 (trainerbyday).
215/75/17 (jepstr67).
225/75/16 (Tyler-98-W68).
235/60/16 (Weezy) & (Cyberpine).
235/65/16 (RamiroUM)
235/70/16 (Heckler).
295/50/16 (Cyberpine) *on 8"wheels (stock steelies are only 6.5" wide).

Note for newbies:

If you are handy you may try it at your own risk, but note they all ride lifted Pat's and had different wheels on...

Fits w/mods:

245/70/16 (Tilley, Hvac59 & Copper).

the back of the front wheel (in tires this size) rub in the section of the inner liner covering the pinch weld.

Everyone seems to have to either cut or hammer down the pinch weld & reposition the liner with the help of a heat gun...

Do not fit:

255/65/16 (Cyberpine) * they fit, but rub so badly on hard brakes that he had to have the store replace them.

To all the members cited above, for being kind enough to share their experience with the rest of us, so we know know what to do (or not to do) now. Thank you ‘all!

205s Not to Be Had

This is invaluable. I just had an unpatchable flat, and it's turned out to be nearly impossible to obtain new 205s. Even the Good Year distributor had none in stock, and they are on "back order." I've been on the donut for three days.

Tires and rims confuse the living crap out of me.
Now that I know this, I can comparitive shop on my own and drive the whole process.

Previously posted by me in a separate thread, I went to the effort of running the tire size calculator on the various tire sizes that are being mentioned in threads, got most of them, so here is a start. Enjoy!

215/65/16 Winters

Please add 215/65/R16 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-60 tires to the list.

I just put them on my '08 4x2 Patriot and so far I love them. I only have about 150kms on them but it was spent on 5" of fresh, wet and heavy snow. My Pat handled very well compared to the 205/70/16 all-season Goodyear Eagles that I was using before.

Edit: added pictures of the tires, fresh out of the snow storm and inside my garage.

225/70/16 will fit without a problem and no rubbing, even when you go over rocks, or a curve, or make U turns. i dont know about anything bigger.

New 225s

I just put a set of 225 70 16 BFG Long Trails on today. They look great, have no rubbing, and drive way better than those POS 205s.

I recently replaced the 16" Goodyear's ( 36000 miles of noise and hydroplaning ) with 16" Firestone Affinity Touring. Way better tire than the original ones and got a buy 3 one free special from my local Firestone in Dallas. The Firestone's are very quite, smooth, and no hydroplaning
