Our 2010 Jeep Patriot was running fine when I my son drove it to the store. When he came out and turned the ignition key nothing happened, nothing lit up on the dashboard no sounds anywhere.
-Battery is about 6 months old and it's voltage is 12.5Volts. We live in Florida and its been very warm.
-I checked the fuse box and all fuses have continuity and appear to be fine.
-I have a Panlong WiFi OBD2 scanner but I assume it needs power from the plug to be useful.
What can I look for from here?
Any ideas on how to toubleshoot this problem.
Good news is my son was going go to Lion Country Safari but the trip was canceled. If he'd of gotten stuck while in the park if would of been challenging!
Thanks
Are you getting power anywhere? e.g., headlights, brakelights, etc? If this is an automatic transmission (CVT) can you even move the shift lever out of Park? If nothing is working electrically, your first guess was maybe close. My next guess is a loose or broken battery cable. Your battery may be fine, but the electricity isn't getting from there to where its needed. And, yes, a battery cable can drop you just like that.
If you jiggle those cables and suddenly it works, you're onto something. But that is only a temporary fix -- it may get you home, but it will happen again and again, and at the worst possible times. Don't venture into lion country without a real repair. :surprise:
BTW, welcome to the site. If my suggestion can't get ya going, I hope someone else on the site can.
Symptoms of a dead battery.
After you charge the battery, please post the voltage with engine NOT RUNNING. Ignition off.
Then measure the battery voltage again WITH ENGINE RUNNING then post that voltage.
Otherwise we'll all be guessing here. Need to cut the problem in half.
Another thing to be aware of are typical TIPM failures which can keep various electrical devices running with the ignition OFF.
That might be draining the battery without you knowing it.
After shutting off the vehicle, listen for any electrical device still running like the fuel pump, lights, etc.
