Break squeal

Hi Folks,

Just a little rant
Picked up a Sport Auto more than a month ago, now with 2200KM on the clock.
From day 1 I already noticed the breaks squealing every time I stop or slow down.

Brought it back for a checkup and the dealer replaced the front break pads, tested and said its all good.

As soon as I drove out the break squeal is still there!

Rang the dealer and they said that its normal with brand new cars and I should wait for 5000Km for the pads to "bed in".

What a load of Cra#%!
I had new cars before and never experienced this.

End rant.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi mate,

Yep mine has been doing it on and off from 14km on the clock.
When the brakes are cold all ok when things warm up it starts.
Yep I've had about 6 new cars and this is our 2nd Jeep and it has done the same thing.
On our KJ we changed the brake pads to Green stuff I think it was and all quiet. I'll do the same with this one when the time is right to shut them up.

Yeah, I notice that mine squeal when I hit them when in Reverse. No squeal when moving forward at this point (27,000 miles now btw).

Mine also squeal in reverse, but only when cold or wet. It goes away as soon as things warm up. Never squeals when moving forward. Had the same thing with my last car, a Merc. Sable.

Try putting a coating of Copper Slip on the back of the brake pad or anti sqeeling shims if you can get them, they are normally stick on and you cut them to size. The sound is normally the back of the brake pad vibrating against the brake piston especially if the pads are a slack fit.

Brake squeal? Yup, same here. Especially in reverse, sometimes some squeal also going forward. Mine has been driven about 10 000km.

Ground clearance is not just a single number! There is more to it than distance to lowest point of vehicle.

Want to know something? Do use the search function. No, it doesn't always help, but you miss out on a lot of stuff if you don't try.

I get a little squeal in reverse typically on humid days. So, does the squeal only occur in the summer months? If yes, not too much you can do about it except endure.

IMHO anyway

Was that really necessary? lol

I noticed my brakes squeaking a little last winter but they haven't done it since. And I had them looked at and everything looked fine. So whatever I guess...

On a damp morning or parking the Pat coming home in the rain, will cause the brakes to squeak while backing out from the garage. By the time I hit the road, the squeak is gone. It appears to be an issue with water and or high humidity.
