I have had my Patriot less than 2 weeks. I have the 75th Edition. The factory wheels & tires suck.. Mine is NOT a highway Princess. What is the LARGEST size wheel/tire combo can I stuff under the body without a lift. I'm not wanting to lift it yet, but I want to still play in the mud..
Also, Can I go a smaller wheel, and a bigger tire?? I have a set of 15" Mazda wheels (5 x 4.5) running 31 x 10.5 Physically the 31's are a lot bigger.. This website shows how much different the two tires are.. www(.)1010tires(.)com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator/215-65R17/31x10-50R15]215-65R17 vs 31x10-50R15
mine came with (i ordered) the oem "offroad" tire and wheel package. what a joke.
with that said, i decided after the crappy good year wranglers aged out to do what you are thinking.
I went down to a 16" alloy wheel and a larger tire but no larger than the stock oem 17" tire that came with it, if that makes sense.
what i got was a tire with same exact circumference as the oem 215/65/17's but with more sidewall. 215/70/r16 yoko geolandar ATS. This combo is better for on and offroad driving. some may argue that you can't take corners as fast now, but i disagree. i take corners just as fast as before and remember that a jeep patriot is not a low slung sports car. it does fine and way better than most average cars in corners due to it's full time 4x4 or awd or whatever you want to call it.
offroad, if you want to call what i do sometimes "offroad", it's way better. More tire flex for rocks and more comfortable and less wear on the mechanical bits of the truck. I also saved a couple pounds per wheel/tire assembly so it helps a hair with low end and wear and tear.
personally i did not want to go to a larger tire so that JEEP could someday down the road say "your larger tires caused the cv axle to fail" and deny a lifetime warranty claim. With my current config they would be very hard pressed to prove less weight/rolling mass and SAME EXACT circumference caused a failure in any jury trial....
I know what you mean.. I have the "Sport Edition, that is suppose to have "offroad" rated tires.. My Golf cart at work has a more aggressive tread than my Jeep..

I would swap the OEM wheels & Tires back onto my truck, before any warranty claims, BUT here in Canada, *IF* you do damage off-road, then it is not covered under warranty anyways.. So anything that I do, I will deny that I was offroad..
I have 15x7 MB TKOs et0 which allow you to run a tire with a lot more sidewall. I currently only have 215/75/15s on them as I bought the set used. But you can fit a much larger tire on them if you so choose. Even with this setup she has done me quite well up here in Northern Michigan.
a 31x10.5r15 will not fit. the largest you can fit with no lift is a ~29.5" tire if you run a wheel with ~4" of back spacing.
a 215/x/15 or a 225/x/15 will fit, (x being 60-75) a 235/60-70/15 might fit, but a 235/75/15 is too big.
I had 245/65/17's, with a RRO lift, 1.25" spacers and flattened pinch weld in the rear of the wheel well, and still had fitment issues. I would not recommend it.
