Clutch Problems on New Patriot

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone else has suffered with Clutch problems on recent Patriot purchases.
I purchased a new 2.2 Diesel manual Limited in December 2010 and already has been in the garage twice - first time for a new clutch unit after total failure of clutch while driving. Apparently down to Clutch Plates. Second time and still in the garage now following further clutch problems they are going to replace Fly wheel Clutch Kit and Clutch Slave Cylinder following advice from Chrysler Technical Visit. Thankfully this is all under warranty.
Now of course I have been advised that this isn't a common problem - but having read other threads in the forum all be it on some older models i'm not so sure.
So would be interested if my Jeep is indeed "Unlucky" or whether this is more common than is being let on.

BTW - Found the forum soon after purchase as I couldn't figure out why my Dash compass was flashing CAL - found a thread with the answer

I Cant quite remember where I read it , but the general Gist was that Jeep were disappointed with the new 2.2 -6 speed set up . Although more power & torque are available , the whole system did not seem as robust as the previous 2.0 VW CRD-6 speed. Certain components in the engine / gearbox are prone to early ware/breakage.
Perhaps a lot more testing / reseach should have been done!!

Just swapped red Classic X , for, Green Auto SE " Spirit " 2.5 Petrol Limited edition X still 4x4,

Thanks for replying - very interesting - I think I'll dig a little deeper in research on that.

Hi Kevb Our patriot needed new clutch after 8000 miles. We bought the vehicle with 6000 on it! All our other cars that we owned go for their entire life without a clutch change. So it's not our driving technique. Both bottom ball joints replaced within two months of each other. New transfer box fitted in October 2010 car caught fire (under transfer box) April 2011. Still waiting for car to be sorted. Not happy. Would never buy another one.

Because of CRD Clutch / Gearbox on Uk /Euro Pat taking extra power & torque, this post doesnt really apply to USA or 2.4 gas /petrol models.

I bought my 2010 Patriot 2.4 Sport Plus 5dr (manual) last November 2010. The clutch went two days ago and it is still at the garage - they say the clutch unit and gear box will need to be replaced. The car only has 6300 miles recorded!!! I love the look of my patriot but I may be regretting replacing my 5 year old audi (5 years of trouble free motoring) for an unreliable jeep.

I have a 2011 and my clutch failed at 9000 miles. Never seen a clutch fail so fast. We have a 84 ram 350 prospector 4 speed and i think it still has the original clutch...

:Use to have 2011 Patriot FD1 5-speed with K&N air filter, Flowmaster 50 series, Curt class III hitch, 225/65-17 Yoko Geo AT/S

Got my Jeep Patriot back! New gear box and clutch unit - still can not believe this has been necessary after only 6000 odd miles and no off roading!!!
