Need a fix for CEL UO401

What's the fix for a 2014 Patriot Sport with just over 65,000 miles with the flashing lightning bolt dash light randomly coming on and going out ?
It also now has a steady CEL glowing and when I scanned it the scanner reads U0401.

We've owned the jeep since new and it hasn't gave us a lick of trouble until the above issues started last week. From what Ive read so far my understanding is that the throttle body may need replacing but I'd like to hear some feedback / opinions so that I can avoid throwing parts on it that's not needed. Also, if the throttle body is the issue do I have to buy an original replacement from the Jeep dealer or can I buy a cheaper unit from NAPA or Auto Zone ????

Hi GGBrown62,

If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know!

Clean the TB first, if that works you just saved a bunch of money on an unnecessary TB replacement.

I agree with DJMurphy, but it can also be Electronic Throttle Control Light or ETC Light. When this light is on it is warning you that there is a potential concern with the throttle control. Might also just be the sensor.

If the throttle body was actually bad, it seems that you would have some engine performance issues such as jerking, stalling, or limp mode.

When I checked my 2014 factory service manual for U0401, this is what I get:

U0401-IMPLAUSIBLE DATA RECEIVED FROM ECM/PCM

Possible Causes:

TIPM NOT CONFIGURED CORRECTLY
ABM CAN BUS DTCS
ENGINE DTCS
ALL WHEEL DRIVE (AWD) CONTROL MODULE

IF THERE ARE OTHER DTC'S, THEN IT GIVES DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES FOR THE FIRST 3. IF THERE ARE NO OTHER DTC'S, THEN IT RECOMMENDS: • Check the schematics as a guide, check the AWD Control Module pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Check all power and ground circuits. If no problems, replace the AWD Control Module.
•Perform AWD Control Module VERIFICATION TEST.

2014 Sport, 2wd, 2.4L, 6 speed tranny, Winter Chill
