Starting Problems on 2015 Pat 2.4I

I purchased a 2015 Patriot Sport back in December with 33k miles on it.

The dealership nicely gave me a print out of the service history for the car. (Which I will tag this to something later)

The vehicle more and more is giving me issues turning it on in the mornings, or when I leave work. (being parked for about 6-8 hours.)
I hear a click near the automatic box every time I turn the key and the vehicle doesn't turn on. The battery is good, I am not sure it would be the starter since there is no click or noise coming from the engine bay.

After reviewing the service history, I saw the following things being replaced. I wonder if this could be part of my problem now.

July 7, 2015 0894TCL2 - Starter system/ ignition
May 26, 2016 08157925 - Sensor, Cam position -2.0-2.4I
18802893 - Module, Wireless Control (WCM)
181906JE - Module. Powertrain Control (PC)

Any feedback would be appreciated. I am still under the 36,000 miles warranty, so I plan to take it in next week.

Yes, it looks like somebody got rid of it because of that problem you're having and the dealership has been guessing at what it is by replacing stuff. Take it back and make them guess some more...

I have the same issue with my 2016 Patriot Sport. It fails to turn on almost every day after being parked for several hours or when the temperature is somewhat low (50's). I used to disconnect the positive battery terminal for about two minutes and it usually worked as a quick fix; now I just wiggle the gear lever and she fires right up. I already took it to the dealership but they said everything looked fine. It's disappointing, seeing as how it was my first Jeep purchase. I don't feel confident behind the wheel every morning before my commute.

You folks might want to have the TIPM bus plug checked for corrosion. I had similar issues when my 2016 High Altitude had just 150 miles on it. If the plug has ANY moisture in it all kinds of bizarre things start happening.

That is exactly what I am running into every morning or evening. I have found that before turning the key all the way, I would kick it in neutral and it would start every time on the first try. (annoying)

Sounds good. I will mention this to the dealership when I bring it in next week.

Hey Chris--we certianly don't want you to feel uneasy every morning. I'd be happy to get you back in to the dealership and keep in touch with them through the diagnostic process. Please send a PM with your VIN if you're interested.

Kori,

I am wondering if I can pick your brain for a bit.

I'm new to the Jeep family and the dealer is charging me 150$ for a diagnostic test to see if something is wrong with the car. Is this standard? (I've never heard that with any of my other car makes and models).

Also, since the issue happens in the mornings/ evenings what proof can I bring to the dealer with me? Would a video work, showing the vehicle not turning on?

I was thinking of paying a tow to have it delivered, but I find that being a hassle to make a point with the service guys at the dealership.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Mechanics usually charge a 1hr diagnostic fee, especially dealers. Although it should be under warranty (if you are still covered).

Hi majeeps15,

As the above poster stated, diagnostics are charged once you are out of warranty. Based on your original post, it sounded like you are still within the basic 3 year/36K mile factory warranty, so I am not sure why the dealership is trying to charge a diagnostic fee. Since the concern does happen in the morning, dropping the vehicle off the night before so they can test it on a cold start the next morning may be beneficial. Or, let them know in the morning when you drop it off that they should let it sit all day, and test it towards the end of business. A video never hurts, but most dealerships want to actually experience the problem, scan for codes, etc., and won't necessarily be able to make a repair solely based on a video.

When you put it in park there is a switch that says it is in park and lets you start it. Sounds like that is not working.

Hey Chris,

Did you take yours to the dealer yet? Did they find the issue to your problem? I dropped mine off yesterday but they couldn't diagnose it due to being short technicians. They will look at it today and give me a response.
