5w-20 vs 5w-30

It is back folks, the good ole 5w-20 vs 5w-30 debate. In true internet and forum fashion let us have the membership sort this out.

Post your reason for using either 5w-20 or 5w-30. Read what has been posted and vote accordingly.

The owners manual calls for 5w-20. So, that is what I use. I use 5w-20 Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Motor Oil with a K&N oil filter.

I use either Mobil 1 Extended Peformance 5w-30 or Pennzoil Plantinum 5w-30.

Because of the whole CAFE fiasco I stay clear of 5w-20.

I use 5W-30, because walmart had a special on full synthetic oil jugs (4.4l) for 20 bux each and I bought a TON of them, so i'm covered for oil changes for quite a while.

I've used both and had no performance differences.

"08" FDI front and rear skid plates, front tow hooks, RRO 2" lift and Super Sliders, 225/70R/17 Geolader A/T's W/full size spare, Valley roof rack, and black (but muddy) muffler.

I use 0W-30 (I'm in New Hampshire)

With the newer oil technologies of today I have no idea why someone would not use a 0 weight oil. It offers protection that extends beyond a 5 weight oil even in warmer climates.. If you have a really old car with leaky seals or live in a super warm climate year round ok, sure, but otherwise use a better protecting oil... Why would you limit your protection range? Where does most engine wear occur? Cold Starts. What does a 0 weight oil do? pump faster on cold starts

I have the lifetime warranty as well. The dealer can't void your warranty for using an oil that has a larger protection range. They could I suppose if you were using something with a smaller protection range (and were able to prove the oil caused the failure which is unlikely). In either case, how would the dealer know what oil you put in?

The only thing required to keep your lifetime warranty is that you bring in the vehicle to have the dealer check it out at the 5 year mark. (And they don't call or remind you either, you have to remember or the warranty is void)
